What Happens During a Free Solar Site Survey
Short answer
A solar site survey is a visit by an engineer to your home, shop or factory to measure the roof, check your electrical setup and understand your load before any system is designed or priced. At Solar Works Pakistan, site surveys are normally free, and the survey is what makes the quotation accurate. Bring 12 months of electricity bills and make the roof safely accessible, and the visit will be quick and useful.
Why a survey comes before the price
Two buildings with the same bill can need very different systems. One has an open, south-facing roof; the other has water tanks, a stair room and shade from a neighbour's building. One runs most of its load in the day; the other at night. A price given only from a bill amount over the phone is an estimate at best.
We treat every system as a customised engineering solution based on the customer's load, site, budget, energy needs, backup needs, expansion plans and feasibility. The survey gives our engineers the facts to balance generation, reliability, budget and future expansion, rather than designing around one number.

The Solar Works project process, step by step
The survey sits early in a fixed sequence. Here is the full process from first call to after-sales support.
- Initial discussion. A phone or WhatsApp conversation about what you want: lower bills, backup during load-shedding, or both.
- Bills and load details. You share your electricity bills and, where relevant, a list of main loads such as ACs, motors, pumps or machines.
- Site survey. An engineer visits to inspect the roof, electrical setup and site conditions.
- Load and feasibility assessment. We work out what size and type of system makes sense for your load and site.
- Engineering and system design. Our in-house team designs the system and structure layout, with our AutoCAD engineers producing drawings where the project requires them.
- Detailed quotation and BOQ. You receive a quotation listing brand, model, quantity, specification and warranty for the main items.
- Advance payment. Projects generally run on an advance-payment basis, with milestones set according to project size.
- Procurement and execution. Equipment is arranged and the work is scheduled.
- Installation. Our own teams install the structure, panels, inverter, protection and cabling.
- Testing and safe commissioning. All necessary tests and checks are completed before handover.
- Customer training and handover. We show you how to operate the system, the inverter and the monitoring app.
- Monitoring and after-sales support. Our own engineering staff handle service, with a 48-hour target to send personnel after a complaint is registered.
Small projects can normally be completed in about a week after the go-ahead, subject to timely payment, equipment availability and site readiness. Larger projects follow a project-specific schedule. Our solar installation services page covers the delivery stages in more detail.
What the engineer checks on site
The roof or ground area
- Usable area, after allowing for water tanks, stair rooms, parapets and walkways.
- Shade from tanks, walls, trees, neighbouring buildings and future construction.
- Direction and tilt options; see our guide to panel angle and direction in Punjab.
- Roof type and condition: RCC slab, steel sheet shed, or a roof that needs an elevated structure. Our guide to L2, L3 and elevated structures explains the options.
- Safe access for installation, cleaning and future maintenance.
The electrical setup
- Meter and connection type: single-phase or three-phase, and the sanctioned load on the bill.
- Main distribution board, existing breakers, wiring condition and earthing.
- Inverter location: a shaded, ventilated, dry wall close to the board, with a Wi-Fi signal for monitoring.
- Cable routes from the roof to the inverter and from the inverter to the board.
- Generator, if there is one, and how it connects today.
Your load and how you use it
- When you use power: daytime use suits direct solar; night use needs batteries or the grid.
- Backup needs: which loads must run during load-shedding.
- Large or motor loads: ACs, pumps, compressors and machines that affect inverter sizing.
- Future plans: another floor, more ACs, an extra production line.
For factories and commercial buildings, the survey also looks at demand patterns and MDI charges; see our MDI guide and industrial and commercial solar page.
What to prepare before the visit
| Prepare | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Last 12 months of electricity bills | Shows units used in every season, not just one month; also shows sanctioned load, tariff and meter type |
| Roof access (keys, ladder or stairs) | The engineer needs to measure and check shade safely |
| List of main appliances or machines | Helps size the inverter and any battery |
| Your backup requirement | Which loads must keep running during load-shedding, and for how long |
| Building drawings, if available | Useful for larger roofs, factory sheds and elevated structures |
| Budget range and plans for expansion | Lets us design for now while leaving room to grow |
| Decision-maker present, if possible | Questions can be answered on the spot |
If you do not have all 12 bills, most DISCO bills show a history of recent months; bring what you have.
After the survey: the quotation
After the survey and design, you receive a detailed quotation and BOQ. Where the equipment has been selected, it names the brand, model, quantity, capacity and warranty for each main item, rather than vague lines like "Tier 1 panels". Manufacturer warranties for panels, inverters and batteries are; our own structure warranty is 3 years, and our service warranty covers the first year under the applicable project terms.
Use our guide on how to read and compare solar quotations to check any offer line by line, including ours. For a rough idea of system size before the visit, try our solar calculator, read how many panels a 5 kW or 10 kW system needs or see typical solar system prices. Our projects start from about 6 kW and go up to megawatt scale.

Frequently asked questions
Is the solar site survey really free?
Site surveys are normally free at Solar Works Pakistan. If anything about your site would change that, we will tell you before the visit.
How long does a solar site survey take?
It depends on the site. A typical home roof takes much less time than a factory with several sheds and distribution boards. Having bills ready and the roof accessible keeps the visit short.
Do I have to buy after the survey?
No. The survey and quotation help you make an informed decision. You are free to compare our quotation with others.
Why do you need 12 months of bills?
Electricity use in Punjab changes a lot between summer and winter. Twelve months shows the full pattern, which matters for sizing panels and batteries and for understanding what you can expect under net billing.
Can you quote without a site visit?
You can start the conversation by sharing your bills and roof photos on WhatsApp. A detailed quotation and BOQ follow the survey, because shade, roof type, cable routes and the electrical setup all affect the design and cost.
Do you survey factories and commercial buildings too?
Yes. Industrial and commercial projects are a core part of our work, from about 6 kW to megawatt scale. These surveys also look at demand patterns, MDI, generators and structure design.
