What you will see
- The AC breaker opens while the inverter screen appears normal.
- The inverter subsequently shows no grid or stops generating.
- Trips occur at startup, during high output or after a period of operation.
- The affected circuit worked previously but now trips repeatedly.
Why it happens
The inverter’s grid-side AC breaker can disconnect its supply path. Solis treats trip timing and the condition of the AC installation as important parts of the investigation.
An overcurrent breaker protects against particular electrical conditions, including overload and short circuits. It has its own operating characteristics and ratings; it does not rely on the inverter reporting a matching fault message.
First establish whether the device is an ordinary circuit breaker, a residual-current device or a combined device. Customers often call all of them “the breaker,” but they can operate for different reasons.
A replacement should not be proposed solely because the inverter has no alarm. The electrician should review the connected circuit, device suitability and event history. If the issue appeared after an appliance or inverter change, include that change in the assessment.
First, which device tripped?
Circuit breaker (MCB, MCCB)
Protects against overload and short circuit.
Residual-current device (RCD, RCCB)
Protects against earth leakage.
Combined (RCBO)
Does both. The label shows which.
No inverter alarm does not mean the inverter is at fault or fine. The electrician reviews the whole AC circuit.
What you can check yourself
- Photograph the visible label and markings without opening the board.
- Record the time of the trip and the inverter status immediately afterwards.
- Note whether the system was starting, exporting, charging batteries or supplying backup.
- List large appliances operating at the time.
- Describe whether rain, recent work or a new load coincided with the first event.
- Use observations from the original incident. Do not deliberately recreate the trip by reconnecting loads or resetting the device repeatedly.
What not to do
- Do not bypass the breaker, hold it closed, increase its rating or remove earth connections. Do not assume a device is safe to replace with another simply because both fit the same board.
When to call us
- Arrange an electrical review for repeated or unexplained trips. Leave a device that will not remain on for professional assessment. Smoke, arcing, scorching or a burning smell require people to keep clear and seek urgent assistance.
