What is new in solar panels: TOPCon, back-contact and 700 W modules?

Short answer

Most panels sold in Pakistan today are N-type TOPCon, which replaced older P-type PERC panels. They lose less power in heat and age more slowly.

Back-contact (BC) panels move all the wiring to the back of the cell, so the front catches more light; LONGi’s Hi-MO X10 is one example we supply. Very large 700 W-class panels exist too, but they are heavier and bigger, so the structure, handling and inverter inputs have to be planned for them.

The three terms you will hear

TOPCon: the current mainstream N-type cell. Better heat and low-light behaviour than PERC.
Back-contact (BC): contacts on the back only, no front busbars. Higher efficiency per panel and a clean black look.
Large-format 700 W-class: bigger cells and a bigger panel. Fewer panels per kW, but each one is heavier and harder to lift onto a roof.

Amber: plan the structure and inverter around the panel. Datasheets from LONGi, Canadian Solar, Astronergy and others give size, weight and warranty.

Does newer always mean better for you?

Not automatically. The best panel for a house is the one that fits the roof, the structure and the inverter, from a maker with a warranty that is honoured locally. A higher-watt panel only helps if the structure and the inverter’s inputs are designed for it.
