Sungrow on-grid (SG-RS) or hybrid (SH-RS): which should I choose for my home?

Short answer

Choose an on-grid Sungrow (SG-RS single-phase or SG-RT three-phase) if your main goal is a lower bill through net billing and you can live without solar during load-shedding. Choose a Sungrow hybrid (SH-RS single-phase or SH-RT three-phase) if you also want backup during outages, because only a hybrid with a battery can keep selected circuits running when the grid is off.

An on-grid inverter must switch off when the grid goes off. That is a safety rule, not a defect. A hybrid powers a separate backup circuit from the battery and panels, so we plan which appliances go on that circuit.
