What you will see

  • A desktop computer switches off while lights and fans seem unaffected.
  • The router’s lights go out, then repeat their normal startup sequence.
  • Devices restart when grid power fails, when it returns, or both.
  • Only one device restarts while other equipment stays on.

Why it happens

The device cannot tolerate the interruption. Electronic power supplies can bridge short gaps, but their tolerance varies. If a changeover takes longer than a device can withstand, it may shut down. An inverter’s fast-switching specification should be checked against the exact model, conditions and connected equipment.

The backup load is too demanding. Several appliances running together, or a motor starting, can exceed the system’s backup capability. Battery discharge limits can also restrict the power available.

A device’s own power supply needs attention. If only one computer or router resets, its power supply or adapter is worth checking. This is a clue, not a diagnosis.

The return to grid needs checking too. If devices restart specifically when electricity returns, ask the installer to inspect the inverter’s reconnection behaviour and any external changeover equipment.

For computers or network equipment that must stay on, a suitably selected dedicated UPS may help. Its type, capacity and compatibility with the solar supply must be checked, and it does not guarantee every changeover problem disappears.

If one device restarts and others do not, its power supply or adapter may be the weak link. A suitably selected UPS can protect PCs and network equipment. Check its type and capacity with us first.

Illustration, not to scale. Changeover behaviour varies by inverter model, including Solis, GoodWe, Growatt and Huawei hybrids, and by the connected load.

What you can check yourself

  • Record when it happens: grid failure, grid return, or after backup has already been running.
  • Check what actually restarts: does the router repeat its startup sequence, or does only the internet connection drop? Include any separate fibre modem or ONT.
  • Check the circuit labels to confirm the affected socket is on backup. Ask us if the labels are unclear.
  • Photograph the inverter display, battery charge and any warning, and note whether an AC, pump or other large appliance started at the same time.
  • Where safe, turn off non-essential heavy appliances at their normal controls and see whether the problem recurs at the next changeover.

What not to do

  • Do not open the inverter, distribution board or power adapters.
  • Do not change protection settings, alter wiring or bypass a changeover switch.
  • Do not repeatedly cut grid power to reproduce the fault.

When to call us

  • Restarts happen regularly, or began after an installation change.
  • Several devices are affected, or restarts continue after the supply has settled.
  • Inverter alarms repeat or backup interruptions last longer.

Home offices and shops in Faisalabad and Lahore

Home offices, clinics and shops in Faisalabad, Lahore and across Punjab depend on PCs, routers and CCTV through load-shedding. If yours restart at changeover, our team can check the inverter’s switching behaviour, the backup circuits and whether a UPS makes sense for your setup.

Send us

Your inverter and battery models, the affected devices, photos of any warnings, and your city and area. Tell us whether the restart happens on grid failure, grid return or both, and whether the system used to change over without restarting them.
