Why it happens

Ask what starts and stops the generator, what sources the inverter can use in the present mode and whether generator control was included in commissioning. Battery charging requirements and site loads should be compared with those objectives.
The investigation should use actual operating records. A sunny moment is not enough to demonstrate that the site can continue safely with the generator stopped, or that stopping it would follow the intended sequence.
What decides the generator

What you can check yourself
- Record generator run hours and fuel records over comparable periods.
- Save solar, battery and load data for the same times.
- Gather the control drawing and agreed operating description.
- Note whether the behaviour changed after service or expansion.
- For industrial sites, include shift schedules and any loads intentionally excluded from the solar or backup arrangement.
What not to do
- Do not disconnect the generator while supplying loads, alter automatic-start wiring or bypass interlocks. Do not reduce operating limits based on another installation’s settings. Generator switching must follow the approved arrangement.
