What you will see
- Solar power is displayed, but battery charging remains at zero.
- Appliances are running while the battery percentage stays unchanged.
- A battery communication or detection warning appears.
- Charging starts and stops at particular times.
Why it happens
The operating mode determines how solar energy is shared between loads, the battery and export. Household or business demand may consume the available generation. Charging schedules and current limits can also affect when and how much the battery charges.
For compatible lithium batteries, communication with the battery management system matters. A powered-off or undetected battery, incorrect configuration or communication fault can prevent the expected interaction with the inverter.
The installer should distinguish these conditions from a battery that has already completed its permitted charging or is temporarily restricting charge. A single monitoring screenshot is useful evidence, but it does not describe the whole day’s operation.
Where the solar goes before the battery

What you can check yourself
- Capture solar power, property load, grid flow and battery charging on the same screen or at the same time.
- Note the battery percentage and any warnings.
- Look at the charging history to establish whether charging never occurs or only pauses during certain periods.
- If safe, switch off unnecessary appliances normally and observe the displayed charging behaviour.
- Record whether the issue began after commissioning, a battery addition or a service visit.
What not to do
- Do not unplug communication leads, select a different battery profile or change charging limits yourself.
- Batteries with similar advertised voltages are not automatically interchangeable or compatible.
When to call us
- Arrange a check when charging consistently fails despite conditions that previously allowed it, the battery is not detected, or warnings persist. Tell us if the system has never charged correctly since installation.
