- Water collecting around supports or across a cable route.

Why it happens
Blocked roof drainage can create additional water loading and increase the risk of leaks and flooding around electrical equipment. DOE guidance identifies drainage obstructions and maintenance access as issues that require attention in rooftop PV installations.
The review should examine the drain locations, water routes, roof levels, supports and debris together. The proposed remedy must preserve the structural and electrical design as well as the roof’s waterproofing.
Sometimes the issue concerns routine maintenance; sometimes equipment placement or a construction detail needs review. The installer and roofing professional should agree on the cause and corrective work before supports, cables or the roof surface are altered.

What you can check yourself
- Note when water was first seen and the recent rainfall pattern.
- Save existing roof plans and installation photographs.
- Record whether the problem began after solar or other roof work.
- Identify the approximate affected area without entering it.
- Mention any associated indoor leak or electrical warning.
- For a commercial property, also provide existing roof inspection and drainage-maintenance records if available.
What not to do
- Do not enter standing water near electrical equipment, reach into a drain beneath cables or climb onto a wet roof. Do not cut supports, move cables or drill new drainage holes without an approved design and repair plan.
