What you will see

  • Battery arrows change direction as clouds pass or appliances operate.
  • The app alternates between small charging and discharging readings.
  • Battery percentage remains similar despite frequent changes in direction.
  • Changes continue even when the property appears to have a steady load.

Why it happens

Solar production and appliance demand are not constant. A refrigerator, pump, AC or machine can change the balance between available generation and consumption. GoodWe’s troubleshooting guidance identifies changes in load and PV production as checks when battery power fluctuates.

Monitoring adds another complication. An app may show periodic samples rather than every instant of operation, and the control system takes time to respond to changing conditions. A single image showing an unexpected power direction does not establish a persistent fault.

Operating modes and timed charge or discharge periods can also affect when the battery is used. The meaning of the arrows should be assessed against the system’s configured purpose, such as self-consumption or preserving backup energy.

Look for a repeatable pattern. Changes that line up with a pump starting provide different evidence from unexplained activity throughout a quiet period. Neither observation, by itself, tells you which setting to change.

Diagram

Arrows that follow the sun and the load

  1. 01Sun: battery charges
  2. 02Cloud passes: battery discharges
  3. 03Sun returns: charges again
  4. 04Pump starts: battery discharges
  5. 05Pump stops: charges again

Changes that line up with clouds or appliances are normal. Unexplained activity during a quiet period, with alarms or higher grid use, needs a review.

Illustration, not to scale. Apps show samples, not every instant, on Solis, GoodWe, Growatt and Huawei monitoring.

What you can check yourself

  • Save a graph covering the affected period instead of relying on one screenshot.
  • Note major appliances or business equipment starting and stopping.
  • Record whether sunshine was steady or interrupted by clouds.
  • Compare solar, load, battery and grid readings with matching timestamps.
  • Check whether the pattern coincides with an existing charge or discharge schedule.
  • If safe, switch off an unnecessary appliance using its normal control and note whether the pattern changes. Keep essential equipment running; there is no need to create a full shutdown for this observation.

What not to do

  • Do not repeatedly change reserve levels, charging limits or energy modes to stop the arrows moving.
  • Do not alter meter sensors or battery communication wiring based on app animation alone.

When to call us

  • Contact us if the activity remains unexplained, backup is interrupted, alarms recur, or daily battery and grid-energy totals differ substantially from the established pattern. The operating history is more useful than the frequency of arrow changes alone.

Daytime patterns in Faisalabad and Lahore

Passing monsoon cloud and pumps cycling are common reasons in Faisalabad, Lahore and across Punjab. A time-matched graph lets our team separate normal activity from a fault.
