What you will see
- Tripping when several backup appliances run together.
- Trips during high solar generation or equipment startup.
- A suggestion to increase the breaker rating without checking the circuit.
- A breaker that repeatedly trips after being reset.
- Also establish whether the device is an ordinary circuit breaker, an earth-leakage device or a combined device. Similar-looking switches can perform different protective functions.
Why it happens
Circuit-breaker selection involves overload and short-circuit protection as well as ratings such as breaking capacity. A replacement must suit the circuit’s design and fault conditions; a larger current rating alone does not establish suitability.
Cable selection also depends on installation conditions, including the route, ambient conditions and how the cable is laid. Cable appearance or nominal size alone cannot settle whether a higher current is acceptable.
The electrician should investigate the trip pattern, connected demand, protective device and condition of the installation. A defective breaker is one possibility, but it should not be the starting assumption every time a circuit trips.

What you can check yourself
- Note which labelled device operates.
- Record what was running and whether the system was on grid or backup.
- Save relevant inverter alarms and their timestamps.
- Mention recent appliance additions or wiring changes.
- Photograph the board’s visible labels only from a safe position.
- Do not open the board to find a rating that cannot be read externally.
What not to do
- Do not request a higher rating simply to prevent trips. Do not bypass protection, hold a switch in position or repeatedly reset a circuit that trips again. Never treat an earth-leakage trip as proof that a larger current rating is needed.
When to call us
- Arrange inspection for repeated trips or a proposed protective-device change. Burning smells, heat damage or crackling require urgent attention rather than another reset.
