What you will see
- Totals slightly lower than when the system was new.
- Uncertainty about whether this is ageing, dust or a fault.
Why it happens
Panels lose a small amount in their first year as they stabilise, then decline slowly each year after that. Each manufacturer publishes a warranted rate on the datasheet. A loss faster than that points to dust, shading, PID, hot spots or a string fault, and some of those are warranty claims.
What you can check yourself
- Find your panel datasheet. It is in your handover pack or on our Datasheets page.
- Compare clear-day totals from the same month in different years, after cleaning.
- Rule out new shading and dust first.
What not to do
- Do not compare a dusty summer day with a clean spring day.
- Do not judge from a single day’s figures.
When to call us
- Your loss is clearly larger than the datasheet allows.
- You need evidence for a warranty claim.
