What you will see

  • Solar AC output drops to zero when load-shedding begins.
  • The inverter shows a grid-loss message or waiting status. The wording varies by model.
  • Generation resumes after grid power returns and the inverter completes its checks.

Why it happens

A standard on-grid inverter works alongside the utility supply. When that supply disappears, its anti-islanding protection stops it feeding electricity into the connected wiring. This helps prevent solar from energising utility lines that FESCO or other DISCO line staff may expect to be dead.

Sunlight still reaches the panels, but the inverter cannot continue ordinary on-grid operation without the grid. This applies across on-grid brands, including Solis, GoodWe, Growatt, Huawei, Inverex and Luminey.

When electricity returns, the inverter checks the supply and completes its reconnection delay. In daylight, with enough solar input, it should resume automatically. The timing depends on the model and its approved grid settings.

Anti-islanding works the same way on Solis, GoodWe, Growatt, Huawei and other on-grid inverters. For power during outages you need a hybrid system with a battery, or another approved backup arrangement.

What you can check yourself

  • Note whether the shutdown happened at the same time as the power cut.
  • Read and photograph the message on the screen or in the app.
  • After the supply returns, watch whether generation resumes during daylight.

What not to do

  • Do not disable anti-islanding protection or change grid-protection settings to force operation.
  • Do not bypass breakers or make improvised connections to another power source.
  • Do not repeatedly restart the inverter or open electrical enclosures.

When to call us

  • The inverter stays disconnected after grid power returns and its normal reconnection checks should have finished.
  • Shutdowns happen while utility power is available.
  • Another fault appears or repeated tripping continues.

On-grid solar in Faisalabad, Lahore and Punjab

During FESCO load-shedding in Faisalabad, LESCO load-shedding in Lahore and outages elsewhere in Punjab, every standard on-grid system behaves this way, whatever the inverter brand and whether the panels are LONGi, Jinko or another make. If you want solar to keep running through outages, the system needs a hybrid inverter with a battery, or another approved backup arrangement. Our Faisalabad and Lahore teams can check whether your existing solar system can be upgraded.

Send us

Your inverter brand and model, a photo of the message on screen, your city and area, and the times the electricity went off and returned. If you have it, a monitoring screenshot showing whether generation restarted.
