Why it happens
DOE’s wildfire guidance addresses PV-system exposure and fire-related vulnerabilities. The review should consider the installation as a whole rather than treating surface cleaning as confirmation of safe operation.
The building structure, electrical equipment and affected roof may need different specialists. Ask who is responsible for each assessment and how findings will be combined before return to service.
Preserve the event record and any available pre-incident photographs. Decisions about repair or replacement should follow documented findings and the applicable manufacturer guidance, not a visual guess from ground level.

What you can check yourself
- Keep the area restricted until access is authorised.

- Photographs are useful only when already available or obtained without entering a restricted or hazardous area.
What not to do
- Do not wash soot from damaged equipment, reconnect loose cables or test the system by restarting it. Do not walk across a fire-affected roof or assume a main switch removes every possible electrical source.
