What you will see

  • Code between 1600 and 1655 in iSolarCloud
  • Code 1616 System Hardware Fault
  • Possible burning smell or marks near cables

Why it happens

A damaged cable or panel can let DC current flow to the frame or roof. Pulling a connector or switching DC under that current can draw an arc.

1616 means the inverter itself has found a hardware problem and should not be restarted.

Diagram

Serious fault: leave the DC side alone

  1. 01Code 1600–1655 or 1616 appears
  2. 02Switch off the AC breaker if safe
  3. 03Do not touch the DC switch or connectors
  4. 04Keep people away, call an engineer

After 1616, do not power the inverter up again.

Sungrow warns that switching DC under current is dangerous.

What you can check yourself

  • Switch off the AC breaker for the inverter at the board if safe to reach
  • Keep children and staff away from the inverter and roof cables
  • If there is smoke or a smell, leave the area and call for help

What not to do

  • Do not switch the DC switch off
  • Do not unplug MC4 connectors
  • Do not restart the inverter after code 1616

When to call us

  • Measure DC current and isolate only when safe
  • Find and isolate the faulty string
  • Insulation test and repair before reconnecting
  • Arrange Sungrow warranty assessment for 1616
