EV Charger Installation for Homes and Businesses in Punjab
Short answer
Solar Works Pakistan installs EV chargers for homes, offices, factories and commercial sites across Punjab. We size the charger to your car and your electricity connection, wire it on its own protected circuit, and, if you have or are planning solar, set it up so your car charges from your panels during the day. Every installation starts with a site survey, which is normally free, and is carried out by our own teams.
An electric car is the biggest single load most homes will ever add. A charger that is fitted well is safe, charges at the speed your car can actually accept, and does not trip your supply or overload your connection. That is the work this service covers.
What the service includes
- Site survey and load check. We look at your connection (single-phase or three-phase), your sanctioned load, your distribution board and where the car is parked.
- Charger selection. We match the charger's power to your car's on-board charger and to your connection, so you do not pay for speed your car cannot use.
- Dedicated circuit. A separate cable run from your distribution board, sized for continuous load, with its own breaker and earth-leakage protection.
- Mounting and testing. Wall or pedestal mounting near the parking spot, then insulation, earthing and protection tests before handover.
- Solar integration (optional). Charging schedules and settings so the car uses daytime solar first, where your system allows it.
- Handover. We show you how to start, stop and schedule charging, and how to read the charger or app.

Which charger do you need?
Most EV owners in Pakistan charge at home overnight or at work during the day, using an AC charger. The table shows the common types.
| Charger type | Typical power | Connection needed | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Portable charging cable (comes with many cars) | about 2 to 3.5 kW | Dedicated single-phase socket | Occasional charging, low daily driving |
| Wall-mounted AC charger, single-phase | about 7 kW | Single-phase, on its own circuit | Most homes; full overnight charge for most cars |
| Wall-mounted AC charger, three-phase | about 11 or 22 kW | Three-phase connection | Larger homes with three-phase supply, offices, fleets |
Power figures are typical classes, not a specific product. for the model you choose.
The car decides the charging speed, not just the charger
Every electric car has an on-board charger that limits how fast it can take AC power. If your car's on-board charger accepts about 7 kW, a 22 kW wall charger will still only charge it at about 7 kW. Before choosing, we check your car's manual or specification sheet for:
- the maximum AC charging power,
- whether it charges on single-phase only or on three-phase as well,
- the connector type.
Connector types
Most AC chargers and many cars sold in Pakistan use the Type 2 connector, while some imported Chinese models use the GB/T connector, and DC fast charging commonly uses CCS2. Adapters exist but are not a substitute for the correct cable; we fit a charger with the connector your car is designed for.
How we install an EV charger
- Survey. We note your connection type, sanctioned load, distribution board space, existing earthing and the distance to the parking spot. See what happens during a site survey.
- Load calculation. A car charging at 7 kW for several hours is a large, continuous load. We add it to your existing evening and night loads (ACs, geysers, water motors) to check that your sanctioned load and incoming cable can carry it.
- Connection upgrade, if needed. If the numbers do not fit, we explain your options: a smaller charger, charging at different hours, increasing your sanctioned load, or moving to a three-phase connection.
- Cable and protection design. The charger gets its own circuit, using properly sized copper cable from approved brands (see solar and power cables), a dedicated breaker, and earth-leakage protection of the type the charger maker specifies (see breakers and protection).
- Earthing. A charger must have a reliable earth. We test the existing earth and improve it where needed (see earthing and surge protection).
- Mounting. We fix the charger where the cable reaches the car's charging port without strain, out of standing water and, where possible, out of direct afternoon sun.
- Testing and commissioning. Insulation resistance, earth continuity, protection trip tests and a live charging test with your car.
- Handover. You get the charger's manual, the manufacturer's warranty document, and a walk-through of scheduling and app settings.
Safety: what we never do
- No extension leads or multi-plugs for car charging. They overheat under hours of continuous load.
- No sharing a circuit with ACs, geysers or other heavy loads.
- No charger without earth-leakage protection and a tested earth.
- No "jugaar" adapters between mismatched connectors.
These points matter more in Pakistan's summer heat, when cables and breakers already run warm. Electrical work on chargers must be done by qualified electricians.
Charging your car from solar
If you have solar, or are planning it, your car can become one of the best uses of your daytime solar energy.
Under the net-billing rules in force since February 2026, units you export to the grid are credited at a much lower rate than the units you buy, so using your own solar at home is usually worth more than exporting it(/guides/net-metering-net-billing-pakistan/)]. A car parked at home during the day can soak up surplus midday solar instead of sending it to the grid.
How we set this up:
- Daytime scheduling. Many chargers and hybrid inverters can schedule charging for solar hours. We set a window around midday that suits your routine.
- Charge speed matched to surplus. If your system produces, for example, 5 kW of spare power at midday, charging at full 7 kW will pull the difference from the grid. We set the charger's current so it fits your system where the charger allows it.
- Home battery. Charging a car from a home battery at night is usually a poor use of the battery, because a car needs far more energy than most home batteries store. We normally keep the home battery for the house and charge the car from panels or the grid.
- Sizing for the car. If you are buying solar and an EV together, we include the car's daily kWh in your load analysis. See charging an EV with home solar for the arithmetic, and sizing your system under net billing.
Solar shades over parking spaces can do two jobs at once: shade the car and generate power for it. See solar carports and canopies.
Your electricity connection and bill
Home charging. A home charger is part of your household load, so it uses your existing connection. The main questions are whether your sanctioned load and phase can carry it, and whether your evening charging pushes you into higher-priced slabs or peak hours. Charging during solar hours helps with both. See load management.
For businesses, factories and housing societies
- Offices and factories: workplace charging for staff and company cars during solar hours, sized against your daytime load. See industrial and commercial solar.
- Fleets: several chargers on a three-phase supply, with load sharing so the total does not exceed your connection.
- Housing societies and plazas: shared chargers on common-area connections, with clear metering for who pays. See solar for housing societies.
For three or more chargers, we design the supply, cable routes and protection as one system rather than adding chargers one by one.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need solar to install an EV charger?
No. We install chargers on homes and businesses with or without solar. Solar simply lets you charge from your own panels during the day, which is usually cheaper than buying the same units from the grid.
Can I charge an electric car from a normal 3-pin socket?
Some cars come with a portable cable for this, but charging draws high current for many hours. It should only be done on a dedicated, properly protected and earthed circuit, never through an extension lead. For daily use, a wall charger on its own circuit is safer and faster.
Is a 7 kW charger enough, or do I need 22 kW?
For most homes, a 7 kW single-phase charger fully recharges most cars overnight. A 22 kW charger only helps if your car can accept 22 kW AC and you have a three-phase connection. Many cars charge at about 7 to 11 kW on AC whatever the charger's rating.
Will an EV charger overload my house connection?
It can if it is added without a load check. During the survey we add the charger to your existing loads and compare the total with your sanctioned load and supply cable. If it does not fit, we suggest a smaller charger, different charging hours, or a load increase.
Do I need a three-phase connection?
Not for a single-phase 7 kW charger, which suits most homes. Three-phase is needed for 11 or 22 kW AC chargers and is often sensible for larger homes, offices and fleets. See three-phase vs single-phase.
Can my car charge from solar automatically?
Yes, within limits. Many chargers and hybrid inverters can schedule charging for solar hours, and some can adjust charging speed to your solar surplus. We set this up where your equipment supports it.
How long does installation take?
A straightforward home installation is usually quick once the charger and materials are on site, but the time depends on cable distance, board changes and any connection upgrade. We confirm the schedule in your quotation, subject to payment, stock and site conditions.
Do you install chargers in Lahore and other Punjab cities?
Yes. Our head office is in Faisalabad and we have a branch in Lahore, and our teams serve customers throughout Punjab.
