Can a Growatt SPF off-grid inverter use a lithium battery?

Short answer

Yes. Growatt SPF inverters support lithium batteries with BMS communication over CAN or RS485, as well as lead-acid batteries. For lithium, the communication cable and the correct BMS protocol setting must be in place, otherwise the inverter shows a BMS communication warning.

The battery's voltage must match the inverter's battery voltage (for example 24 V or 48 V models), but a matching voltage alone does not mean the battery will work correctly; the model and protocol must be supported.
