I already have an on-grid solar system. Can I add a Sungrow battery later?

Short answer

Not directly to a Sungrow SG-RS or SG-RT on-grid inverter, because they have no battery port. You can add a Sungrow hybrid (SH series) with a battery alongside your existing single-phase on-grid inverter; Sungrow's manual describes this as retrofitting an existing system.

In that set-up the old inverter keeps working, and its solar power goes to your loads first and then helps charge the battery. The old inverter must not be bigger than the hybrid, and the hybrid's meter needs a second sensor to read the old inverter.
