Huawei vs Sungrow for Commercial and Industrial Solar
Short answer
Huawei and Sungrow are both strong choices for factories and commercial buildings, and neither is better on every site. Huawei tends to suit owners who want its FusionSolar monitoring ecosystem and many MPPTs per inverter on complex roofs; Sungrow tends to suit sites where battery storage (BESS) is central to the project, given its long focus on storage. The deciding factors are usually the inverter sizes that fit your split, the storage design, generator integration and the delivered price. This guide compares them for commercial and industrial (C&I) use only.
For model families and prices, see our Huawei inverters and batteries and Sungrow inverters and batteries pages. For three-phase home hybrids, see 12 to 20 kW three-phase hybrids.
The short comparison
| Point | Huawei | Sungrow |
|---|---|---|
| C&I on-grid inverters | SUN2000 KTL range, tens of kW to 100 kW+ per unit | SG CX range, tens of kW to 100 kW+ per unit |
| MPPTs on a ~110 kW class unit | 10 on SUN2000-115KTL-M2 | 9 on SG110CX |
| Peak efficiency (published, ~110 kW class) | About 98.8% | About 98.7% |
| C&I battery storage | LUNA2000 C&I cabinets (215 kWh class; Huawei now also lists a 241 kWh class) | PowerStack cabinets (around 257 kWh / 125 kW on a current model) |
| Monitoring platform | FusionSolar app and web | iSolarCloud app and web |
| Typical strength | Ecosystem, monitoring, many MPPTs | Storage depth, modular BESS |
On the published numbers for comparable inverters, the two are very close. A tenth of a percent of peak efficiency will not decide your project. What does decide it is below.

On-grid string inverters: what to compare
Most factory solar starts with on-grid string inverters on the roof. Both brands make three-phase units from small commercial sizes to 100 kW+. When we compare them for a site, we look at:
MPPT count and roof layout
An MPPT (maximum power point tracker) lets a group of strings work independently. Factory roofs often have several sheds, different tilts or partial shade from parapets and ducts. More MPPTs per inverter means fewer compromises in grouping those strings. In the ~110 kW class, Huawei's SUN2000-115KTL-M2 lists 10 MPPTs and Sungrow's SG110CX lists 9. At other sizes the balance can tip the other way, so we compare the exact models for your split.
How the plant is split
A 300 kW roof can be built with three large units or more smaller ones. Smaller units mean less output lost if one trips, but more units to install and monitor. Our on-grid inverters for factories guide explains this choice in detail; it applies equally to both brands.
Efficiency
Both brands publish peak efficiencies of nearly 99% on large units. Weighted efficiency over a real day matters more than the peak figure; see inverter efficiency ratings explained.
Export control
Many factories need to limit or block export, or manage several inverters against one grid point. Both brands do this with their own smart meter and controller. Check that the exact controller supports the number of inverters on your site. See zero export devices and the export rules in our net metering and net billing guide.
Protection and environment
Punjab factories are hot and dusty, and some (dyeing, tanneries) have corrosive air. Compare the ingress protection rating, operating temperature range and derating curve. Both brands publish these on datasheets; read them with our inverter datasheet guide.
Battery storage (BESS): where the choice often turns
For many Punjab factories, the real question is not the rooftop inverter but whether to add storage, and how. Both brands sell C&I battery cabinets: lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells, built-in power conversion, cooling and fire protection, designed to be placed outdoors and combined for larger capacity.
| Point | Huawei LUNA2000 C&I | Sungrow PowerStack |
|---|---|---|
| Building block | Cabinet in the ~200-240 kWh class | Cabinet in the ~250 kWh class |
| Cell chemistry | LFP | LFP |
| Cooling | Hybrid cooling on current model | Liquid cooling on current model |
| Scaling | Multiple cabinets | Modular, many cabinets in parallel |
| Grid-forming / off-grid | Described as grid-forming on current model | Grid-forming and black start described on current model |
What to check for your site:
- What the battery is for. Backup for critical lines, cutting generator hours, storing midday solar for an evening shift, or shaving peaks. Each sizes differently; power (kW) and energy (kWh) are separate decisions. Our BESS for factories guide explains how to judge whether storage pays, with example arithmetic and no promises.
- How it works with your generator. Many factories keep a diesel or gas generator. The storage system, inverters and generator must share one control scheme so the generator is not back-fed and starts only when needed. See solar plus generator hybrid systems.
- Peak demand. If MDI is a large part of your bill, storage can help cap peaks, but only if the control logic is set up for it. See MDI on your electricity bill.
- Space, ventilation and access for cabinets, transformers and cabling.
Sungrow has built storage systems at utility scale for many years, which is why it is often shortlisted when storage is the heart of a project. Huawei's advantage is a single ecosystem: the same FusionSolar platform shows rooftop inverters and storage together. Both approaches work. The right one depends on what your site needs the battery to do.
Monitoring: FusionSolar vs iSolarCloud
Both platforms show generation, consumption, battery state, grid import and export, and alarms, by plant and by inverter.
- Huawei FusionSolar is known for detailed string-level data and a single view of inverters, optimizers (where fitted) and storage.
- Sungrow iSolarCloud gives plant, inverter and storage data and supports multi-plant views for owners with several sites.
Either is fine for a factory owner who checks daily output and alarms. The bigger question is who watches it. Solar Works Pakistan monitors its projects remotely, subject to equipment capability, and at handover we show your maintenance team which readings and alarms matter. For a longer-term plan, see operations and maintenance for commercial solar plants.
Power quality
Factories with many VFDs, welding sets or induction loads already have harmonics on their supply. Large inverters add their own small contribution and must ride through voltage dips without tripping. Both brands publish harmonic distortion limits and grid-support settings. On sensitive sites we check power quality before design; see harmonics and power quality in solar-powered factories.
Which one for your site?
| Your site | Often a good fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Factory roof, many sheds and orientations | Huawei, or Sungrow at a size with more MPPTs | MPPT count per unit; compare exact models |
| Roof-only plant, no storage planned | Either | Decide on sizes, export control and price |
| Storage is the main goal (backup, generator reduction) | Sungrow often shortlisted; Huawei also suitable | Storage depth vs single ecosystem |
| Owner wants one app for inverters and storage | Huawei or Sungrow, same brand throughout | Avoid mixing monitoring platforms |
| Solar now, storage in phase 2 | Same brand for both phases | Simpler control and monitoring later; see phased rollout |
| Very corrosive or dusty environment | Either, by datasheet | Compare protection rating and derating |

Frequently asked questions
Is Huawei or Sungrow better for a factory?
Neither is better on every site. Both make reliable large string inverters with similar efficiency. Huawei is often chosen for its monitoring ecosystem and MPPT count; Sungrow is often shortlisted where battery storage is central. We compare both for your load and roof.
Which has more MPPTs, Huawei or Sungrow?
It depends on the model. In the ~110 kW class, Huawei's SUN2000-115KTL-M2 lists 10 MPPTs and Sungrow's SG110CX lists 9. Compare the exact models proposed for your plant.
Is Sungrow better for battery storage?
Sungrow has long experience in storage, from commercial cabinets to utility plants, which is why it is often shortlisted for BESS projects. Huawei's C&I storage is also strong and integrates with FusionSolar. The right choice depends on what the battery must do on your site.
Can I use Huawei inverters with Sungrow batteries?
Generally, plan inverters, storage and controls from one brand so they communicate and are monitored together. Mixing brands needs careful engineering of the control scheme and is not usually the simpler route.
Can Huawei or Sungrow storage work with my factory generator?
Both can form part of a solar, storage and generator system, but the control scheme must be designed for your site so the generator runs only when needed and is never back-fed. We confirm integration options per product at design stage.
What is the difference between FusionSolar and iSolarCloud?
They are Huawei's and Sungrow's monitoring platforms. Both show generation, consumption, battery and alarms per plant and per inverter. Either works well if someone checks it regularly.
Can I start with Huawei or Sungrow on-grid and add storage later?
Yes, and choosing the same brand for both phases usually makes the later step simpler. Tell us at the survey so we leave room in the design.
