Growatt SPF shows Low battery (Warning 04) or shuts down at start-up

Short answer

Warning 04 on a Growatt SPF means the battery voltage or charge is low. If the screen lights for three seconds and then goes off at start-up, the battery is too low to run the inverter. Growatt's advice is to recharge the battery, and replace it if it no longer holds charge. Fault 56 means the battery is not connected properly or its fuse has blown.

Why it happens

Long load-shedding with heavy loads drains the battery. Old lead-acid batteries lose capacity and drop voltage quickly.

A loose battery cable or blown fuse looks like no battery at all.
