Why won’t a hybrid inverter restart after the battery runs flat?

What you will see

• Backup circuits remain off after the battery reaches a low charge level.
• The inverter shows waiting, low-battery or battery-protection information.
• Charging starts, but backup appliances do not immediately restart.
• The inverter display is on while the battery appears inactive.

Why it happens

The inverter can stop discharging at a protective cutoff and wait for the battery to recharge sufficiently before restoring battery support. The restart threshold and sequence depend on the equipment. A battery described as “flat” may have reached its permitted discharge limit rather than being completely empty.

Battery protection or sleep is a separate possibility. Some compatible systems have an approved battery wake-up function; others need a specific service procedure. These functions must be checked against the exact battery and inverter combination.

At sunrise, there may not yet be enough solar power for recovery and the connected appliances. When grid electricity returns, charging also depends on an accepted grid supply and the configured charging behaviour. A waiting display should therefore be assessed together with the charging status and alarms.

A battery described as “flat” has usually reached its permitted discharge limit, not zero. Pressing the power button again does not speed up recovery.

What you can check yourself

• Note when backup stopped and when sunlight or grid power returned.
• Photograph the inverter screen and visible battery indicators without opening covers.
• Check whether the displayed battery charge is increasing.
• Switch off unnecessary backup appliances using their normal controls, if safe.
• Tell us whether this is the first occurrence or happens after every deep discharge.

What not to do

• Do not lower protection thresholds, repeatedly reset breakers, jump-start the battery or connect an external charger yourself.
• Recovery procedures from another brand or model may be unsuitable.

When to call us

• Contact us if the battery remains unrecognised, an alarm persists, or the system fails to recover under the normal conditions explained at handover. Report a battery that remains deeply discharged promptly so we can advise on the correct recovery process.
