What you will see

  • Inverter stops for a few minutes around midday, then starts again
  • iSolarCloud shows Grid Overvoltage with code 2, 3, 14 or 15
  • Generation curve has gaps on bright days, worse on Sundays and holidays when the area uses less power

Why it happens

Every inverter has to stop exporting when the grid voltage is too high. In many Faisalabad and Lahore streets the transformer voltage is already high, and when several houses export at once it rises further.

A long or undersized AC cable between the inverter and the meter adds to the voltage the inverter sees, so it can trip even when the voltage at the meter looks fine.

Code 14 is the slower 10-minute average check; codes 2, 3 and 15 are quicker or transient checks. All point to the same cause.

Diagram

Why it stops on bright afternoons

  1. 01Many homes export at midday
  2. 02Street voltage rises
  3. 03Inverter sees it above its limit
  4. 04Disconnects, waits, reconnects
Codes:
231415

A long or thin AC cable adds to the voltage the inverter sees.

Applies to Sungrow SG-RS, SG-RT, SH-RS, SH-RT and SG-CX inverters.

What you can check yourself

  • Screenshot the fault in iSolarCloud with the time it happened
  • Note whether it happens at the same time of day and on bright days
  • Ask neighbours with solar if their inverters also stop at midday
  • Check that the inverter has not lost its settings after a firmware update (the app shows the country/grid code)

What not to do

  • Do not ask anyone to raise the protection limits without the DISCO's consent; Sungrow itself requires the power company's approval
  • Do not keep resetting the AC breaker; the inverter reconnects on its own

When to call us

  • Measure grid voltage at the meter and at the inverter while it is exporting
  • Check AC cable size, length and every joint between inverter and meter
  • Confirm the correct grid code is set for Pakistan
  • Prepare a FESCO or LESCO complaint with readings if the transformer voltage is high

High grid voltage in Faisalabad and Lahore

Midday overvoltage is common on busy FESCO and LESCO transformers with many solar homes. Our Faisalabad and Lahore teams can take readings and help you prepare a complaint to your DISCO.
