What you will see
- Sudden jumps in state of charge, for example from full to much lower.
- The battery display and the inverter app disagree.
- The battery cuts out while still showing charge remaining.
Why it happens
A lithium iron phosphate battery’s voltage stays almost flat through most of its charge, so the percentage cannot be read from voltage alone. The BMS counts energy in and out and corrects itself when the battery reaches full.
If the battery rarely reaches full, or the inverter is estimating from voltage because communication is not working, the figure drifts further over time.
What you can check yourself
- Check whether the battery reaches full on sunny days.
- Compare the battery’s own display with the inverter app at the same moment.
- Check that no communication alarm is showing.
What not to do
- Do not change charge or discharge settings to force a full charge.
- Do not use a separate charger on the battery.
When to call us
- The battery cuts out with charge showing.
- The two readings disagree by a large margin, or keep getting worse.
