What you will see

  • The inverter stops and reports a grid-related warning.
  • A frequency warning is described informally as “high voltage.”
  • The fault appears only at certain times or during generator operation.
  • Generation resumes after the supply returns to acceptable conditions.

Why it happens

Voltage warnings check the electrical voltage, normally displayed in volts. Frequency warnings check the rate of the AC cycle, normally displayed in hertz.

Manufacturers distinguish upper and lower voltage limits from upper and lower frequency limits. Solis lists these as separate alarm categories. The exact code and permitted operating conditions depend on the inverter and its approved configuration.

A fault name describes the detected condition; it does not identify the cause by itself. The service review should compare the event log, supply conditions and installation history. If a generator is part of the system, its involvement should be recorded explicitly.

The distinction matters when discussing a solution. A proposal to change a voltage setting does not, by itself, address a frequency warning. Protective limits should not be changed simply to keep the screen clear of alarms.

Two different checks

Voltage warning

Checks the electrical voltage, normally shown in volts. Upper and lower limits.

Frequency warning

Checks the rate of the AC cycle, normally shown in hertz. Separate upper and lower limits.

A change to a voltage setting does not address a frequency warning. Protection limits should not be widened to clear alarms.

Solis lists voltage and frequency as separate alarm categories. The same idea applies to Solis, GoodWe, Growatt and Huawei inverters.

What you can check yourself

  • Save the full alarm text and code, including any suffix.
  • Record displayed voltage and frequency from the normal user screen.
  • Note whether the supply came from the grid or an approved generator arrangement.
  • Record when the fault started, how long it lasted and whether it recurred.
  • Mention whether nearby electrical work or a supply disturbance happened at the same time.
  • Keep the original screenshots. A short message saying “grid error” can omit the information needed to distinguish several unrelated conditions.

What not to do

  • Do not change country codes, widen voltage or frequency limits, adjust a generator’s controls or bypass grid protection yourself. Do not take live measurements inside a distribution board.

When to call us

  • Request a review for repeated warnings, extended loss of generation or faults that began after equipment changes. The installer should determine whether supply investigation, configuration verification or equipment service is required.
