What you will see
- Inverter drops off during humid, cloudy or rainy spells
- Code 12 in the fault history
- It returns on its own when the weather clears
Why it happens
Damp panels and cables let a little current flow to earth. A small amount is normal; past the limit the inverter disconnects for safety.
Damaged insulation on DC or AC cables increases the leakage even in dry weather.
A little leakage is normal, too much is not
- 01Humid or rainy spell
- 02Leakage to earth rises
- 03Code 12, inverter disconnects
- 04Weather clears, it reconnects
If it happens in dry weather, cable insulation needs testing.
What you can check yourself
- Match the fault times with weather
- Look for visible cable damage from a safe position
- Check that earth connections on the panel frames are not visibly broken
What not to do
- Do not touch panel frames or cables while the fault is active
- Do not remove the earth wire
When to call us
- Test AC and DC cable insulation
- Check earthing of frames and inverter
- Inspect panels for backsheet damage
Humid spells in Punjab
Leakage faults show up across Punjab in the humid weeks of the monsoon. Our Faisalabad and Lahore engineers can test insulation and earthing to see if it is weather or damage.
