Why does the house import electricity while the sun is shining?

What you will see

Why it happens

Solis describes cloud snapshots that capture a system while it responds to load changes. A recorded import point may therefore represent a transient event rather than a sustained condition.

Persistent imports need a broader check: actual demand, solar output, battery state, operating mode and the circuits covered by the measurements. The installation’s agreed priorities matter.

A screenshot showing sunshine and a partly charged battery cannot establish that grid imports are avoidable. The service team should explain the reason using the actual equipment status, rather than assuming either a fault or normal behaviour.

What you can check yourself

• Save a complete power-flow screen and its timestamp.
• Note the appliances operating at that moment.
• Record the battery state and any warnings.
• Compare the daily imported energy with isolated power readings.
• Mention whether the pattern began after an appliance addition, schedule change or service visit.

What not to do

• Do not lower battery reserve, override discharge limits or change export settings to eliminate a single import point. Do not compare DC panel ratings directly with AC load demand without considering the measurement difference.
