What you will see

  • Lower imported units but a similar demand-related charge.
  • A demand peak during an evening shift.
  • A brief operating period that determines the recorded maximum.
  • Monthly generation increasing while the billed demand basis remains unchanged.

Why it happens

Schneider Electric distinguishes demand measured over a defined interval from the greatest demand recorded during a period. The meter’s demand method therefore matters when interpreting the maximum reading.

Solar output during other hours cannot automatically remove a peak that occurs when output is low or demand is especially high. The billed quantity may also depend on the applicable tariff’s definition, so do not assume it equals one visible instantaneous reading.

A review should compare meter demand records with machine schedules, solar availability and any battery-control objective. Any proposed peak-reduction strategy needs to be assessed against the actual operating requirements.

Solar during other hours cannot remove a peak that happens when output is low.

Schneider Electric distinguishes interval demand from maximum demand. Applies to FESCO and LESCO industrial tariffs.

What you can check yourself

  • Gather the complete bill and applicable tariff description.
  • Request the demand interval and recorded-peak timing where available.
  • Provide shift schedules and major equipment start times.
  • Save solar and battery records covering the same period.
  • Identify production changes that make a comparison with the previous year misleading.

What not to do

  • Do not change production-critical controls or battery limits to chase a lower reading without assessment. Do not assume that more panel capacity guarantees a proportional reduction in demand charges.

When to call us

  • Request a load-profile review when demand charges remain important after installation or when a proposed battery project depends on reducing them.
