What you will see
- Backup cuts out when an AC, motor, iron or water pump starts
- Code 51 during load-shedding
- Backup takes several minutes to return after repeated cuts
Why it happens
Air conditioners, pumps and motors draw a big surge for a moment when they start. If that surge, added to everything else on backup, goes over the hybrid's backup rating, it protects itself.
Starting surge tips backup over
Repeated overload makes the restart wait longer.
What you can check yourself
- Note which appliance was switched on at the moment backup dropped
- Switch off heavy loads during load-shedding
- Read our article on load division
What not to do
- Do not keep restarting the same heavy load on backup
- Do not move grid wiring onto the backup port
When to call us
- Review which circuits are on the backup port
- Divide loads so heavy appliances stay on grid only
- Advise on a larger system if you need them on backup
Load division in Punjab homes
Summer load-shedding with ACs running is the main cause of code 51 in Faisalabad and Lahore. We plan which circuits go on backup so it stays on.
