How Rahim Yar Khan's industry uses power
The district government lists more than 350 industrial units in Rahim Yar Khan. Cotton ginning and pressing make up roughly half of them. Flour mills are the next largest group, followed by textile units, seed-processing plants and cold stores. The district also has six sugar mills, two fertiliser plants and a Punjab government industrial estate. The area under sugarcane has also grown considerably over the past decade.
For solar, these businesses fall into four groups.
1. Ginning and oil units: seasonal and dusty
Ginning runs hard for a few months after the cotton harvest and slowly or not at all for the rest of the year. Gin stands, fans, conveyors and presses are motor loads with heavy starting current, and lint gets everywhere.
- Size for the year, not just the season. Under net billing, surplus exported in the quiet months earns far less than units bought in season. A plant sized for peak season can export a great deal for most of the year.
- Keep lint out. Enclose inverter rooms, seal cable entries and keep the area around electrical equipment clean. Lint near hot equipment is a fire risk.
- Cover the motors. Inverters and protection must be sized for the starting surge of the largest motors that run together.
2. Flour mills and seed processing: steady daytime work
Milling and seed cleaning, grading and treating mostly run in daylight hours, which suits solar well. Demand charges and motor starting are the main design points. Our guide to solar for flour and rice mills covers both, and what MDI means on your bill explains why solar alone may not cut demand charges.
3. Cold stores: day and night
Compressors work hardest on hot afternoons, matching solar output, but keep running overnight. See our cold storage and ice factory guide for compressor surge and night-load options.
4. Sugar mills and other heavy industry
Sugar mills commonly raise much of their own steam and power from bagasse during the crushing season, so their grid demand looks very different from a ginning unit's. Where solar is considered at a mill, it usually serves offices, colonies, workshops and off-season loads rather than the crushing line. Every mill is different and needs its own study; our guide on whether solar can run heavy industrial loads sets out what is and is not practical.
Across all four groups, outages are often covered by generators. A hybrid design with the right controller lets solar share the load with an existing set safely; see solar and generator hybrid systems. Battery storage can bridge short outages or carry evening loads; see BESS for factories. We do not sell generators, but we integrate existing sets. Industrial projects are delivered through our industrial and commercial solar service. We do not publish client names.
Farms and tubewells
Sugarcane, cotton and wheat farms across the district's canal-irrigated land ask about solar for tubewells. Sugarcane in particular needs a lot of water. Sizing by horsepower and bore depth is explained in our solar tubewell and VFD guide.
Solar Works Pakistan designs and installs solar for tubewells and farm buildings in Rahim Yar Khan district.
MEPCO and net billing in Rahim Yar Khan
Rahim Yar Khan is supplied by MEPCO, which serves 13 districts of south Punjab and has Rahim Yar Khan as one of its operating zones. MEPCO applies NEPRA's national rules, explained in our net metering and net billing guide:
- Net metering closed to new applicants on 9 February 2026. New connections come under net billing. Imports are billed at your normal tariff; exports are credited at the national average energy purchase price, reported at about Rs 10-11 per unit when the rules were notified.
- Existing agreements keep their terms until they expire; changing system capacity can move you to net billing.
- Size limit: up to your sanctioned load, with an overall cap of 1 MW. Net billing is open to three-phase 400 V or 11 kV consumers.
- Approval: MEPCO approves systems up to 25 kW with no NEPRA fee. Above 25 kW, NEPRA concurrence and a one-time Rs 1,000 per kW apply, and 250 kW and above needs a load flow study. See the 25 kW rule.
- Transformer limit: no new applications once solar on a transformer reaches 80% of its rating. Rural feeders with many tubewell and factory connections can reach this limit sooner, so check early. Our green meter and application guide lists the documents and step timelines.
For a seasonal factory, the export rate is the number to watch: plan the size so that most output is used on site through the year.
Solar Works Pakistan prepares, submits and follows up the MEPCO net billing application on your behalf.
How a project works
Because of the distance, we do as much engineering as possible before anyone travels. Our Bahawalpur and Multan pages cover the neighbouring MEPCO districts.
- Send data on WhatsApp: twelve months of bills and MDI history, roof photos, and for factories a motor list, season dates and generator rating.
- Remote engineering review of units, demand, sanctioned load and connection, with an indicative size.
- Site survey, normally free, planned so that one trip covers the roof, structure, cable routes and transformer question.
- In-house design and a detailed BOQ with brand, model, quantity and warranty for each item.
- Installation by our own teams, scheduled around your season where possible, then testing, safe commissioning and handover.
After a complaint is registered, we target sending service personnel within 48 hours to begin diagnosis; distance and spare parts can affect the time to a final fix. Small projects are normally completed in about one week, subject to payment, equipment availability and site readiness; factory projects follow a project-specific schedule. Panels, inverters and batteries carry the manufacturer's warranty per product. Our structures carry a 3-year Solar Works Pakistan structure warranty, and our service warranty covers the first year under applicable project terms. See installation services.
Solar Works Pakistan was founded in 2021 and has served 300+ customers, including 50+ industrial clients, with power-generation heritage going back to the 1980s through our founder, Akram Ullah Khan.

Frequently asked questions
What is the solar panel price in Rahim Yar Khan today?
Mainstream N-type panels are WhatsApp for today's rate per watt, about WhatsApp for today's rate for a 615 W panel. The rate follows the national market and changes with the dollar and stock. WhatsApp 0336 666 4321 for today's figure.
Do you have an office in Rahim Yar Khan?
No. Our own engineers and installation teams cover all of Punjab, starting with a WhatsApp review of your bills.
Do you install in Sadiqabad and Khanpur?
Yes. Sadiqabad, Khanpur and Liaquatpur are tehsils of Rahim Yar Khan district in Punjab, and we serve the whole district. We do not serve areas across the provincial border.
Which DISCO covers Rahim Yar Khan?
MEPCO, which also covers Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Multan and the rest of south Punjab's 13 districts.
Can a cotton ginning unit go solar if it only runs a few months a year?
It can, but the size must reflect the whole year. Under net billing, off-season surplus earns much less than in-season units cost, so we size for the load the plant uses on site across the year.
Do you install home systems in Rahim Yar Khan?
Not at present. Because of the distance, in Rahim Yar Khan district we take on industrial and commercial projects only. For other districts, WhatsApp 0336 666 4321.
Can I still get net metering from MEPCO?
Not as a new applicant. Applications from 9 February 2026 come under net billing. Existing agreements keep their terms until they expire.
