Solar for kinnow cold stores and grading units
Sargodha is the centre of Pakistan's kinnow trade. The district is widely reported to grow the great majority of the country's kinnow, and the season brings a heavy load of grading, washing, waxing and cold-storage work. That creates a very specific energy pattern.
What works in favour of solar
- Cold-store compressors run hard through the day, when panels produce most.
- Grading halls and cold stores usually have large, open roofs close to the load.
- Generator power during outages is expensive, so every unit of daytime solar displaces costly fuel.
What needs careful engineering
- Season versus off-season. Grading lines run for a few winter months. Cold storage may run longer. If the solar plant is sized for peak season, ask what happens to surplus units in the off-season under net billing, when exports earn far less than imports cost.
- Compressor starting current. Large refrigeration motors need inverters and protection sized for their surge, not just their running load. Our guide to solar for cold storage and ice factories explains this.
- Night loads. Cold rooms keep running after sunset. Battery storage can carry part of the evening load or smooth demand peaks; see BESS for factories.
- Sheet roofs. Many packing halls have light metal sheets on steel purlins. Fixings must suit the sheet and purlin spacing, and penetrations must be sealed against rain.
Solar Works Pakistan designs these plants in-house, including structures, and integrates existing generators and batteries into hybrid systems. Our industrial and commercial solar page explains how we deliver them.
Farms and tubewells
Orchards and farms around Sargodha also ask about solar for tubewells and farm buildings. Our solar tubewell and VFD guide explains sizing by horsepower and bore depth.
Solar Works Pakistan designs and installs solar for tubewells and farm buildings in the Sargodha area.
Homes in Sargodha: heat, dust and roof space
Sargodha summers are long and hot, and air conditioning drives most household bills. Two local points shape the design:
- Dust from farmland and unpaved roads settles on panels quickly in dry months. Plan safe roof access and a cleaning routine; our solar panel cleaning guide covers how often and how.
- Roof space in older city houses is often shared with water tanks, stairs and washing areas. An elevated structure lets you keep the roof usable and improves airflow under hot panels. See L2, L3 and elevated structures.
FESCO and net billing in Sargodha
Sargodha's electricity is supplied by FESCO, the same distribution company (DISCO) that serves Faisalabad. FESCO lists Sargodha among its districts, along with Faisalabad, Jhang, Chiniot, Toba Tek Singh, Mianwali, Khushab and Bhakkar, so the paperwork is the same as for a Faisalabad customer. FESCO applies NEPRA's national rules, summarised in our net metering and net billing guide:
- Net metering closed to new applicants on 9 February 2026. New solar connections come under net billing. Units you import are billed at your normal tariff; units you export are credited at the national average energy purchase price, reported at about Rs 10-11 per unit when the rules were notified.
- Existing net metering agreements keep their terms until they expire. Changing your system capacity can move you to net billing.
- Your solar capacity cannot exceed your sanctioned load.
- Net billing is open to three-phase 400 V or 11 kV consumers. FESCO's net metering checklist lists a three-phase meter (see our green meter guide).
- Up to 25 kW, FESCO approves the system and there is no NEPRA fee. Above 25 kW, NEPRA concurrence and a one-time fee of Rs 1,000 per kW apply. See NEPRA licence and the 25 kW rule.
- Transformer limit. New applications are refused once connected solar on a transformer reaches 80% of its rating. Our green meter and FESCO application guide lists the documents and step timelines.
Solar Works Pakistan prepares, submits and follows up the FESCO net billing application on your behalf.
How a project works
Sargodha customers work with the same engineers and teams as our Faisalabad customers:
- WhatsApp your bills. Twelve months of bills, roof photos and the loads you want to run. For cold stores, add compressor ratings and season dates.
- Remote review of units, sanctioned load and connection type, with an indicative size.
- Site survey, normally free, to check the roof, shading, structure and cable routes.
- In-house design and a detailed BOQ listing brand, model, quantity and warranty for every item.
- Installation by our own team, followed by testing, safe commissioning and handover.
Once a complaint is registered, we target sending service personnel within 48 hours to start diagnosis; the final fix depends on the fault and spare parts. Small projects are normally finished in about one week, subject to payment, equipment availability and site readiness. Panels, inverters and batteries carry the manufacturer's warranty per product. Our structures carry a 3-year Solar Works Pakistan structure warranty, and our service warranty covers the first year under applicable project terms.
Solar Works Pakistan was founded in 2021 and has served 300+ customers, including 50+ industrial clients, with power-generation heritage going back to the 1980s through our founder, Akram Ullah Khan. See our installation services page for the full process.

Frequently asked questions
What is the solar panel price in Sargodha today?
Mainstream N-type panels are WhatsApp for today's rate per watt, or about WhatsApp for today's rate for a 615 W panel. The rate is the national market rate and changes with the dollar and stock. WhatsApp 0336 666 4321 for today's figure.
Do you have an office in Sargodha?
No. Our own engineers and installation teams cover all of Punjab, starting with a WhatsApp review of your bills.
Which DISCO covers Sargodha?
FESCO. It also covers Faisalabad, Jhang, Chiniot, Toba Tek Singh, Mianwali, Khushab and Bhakkar, so the net billing paperwork matches Faisalabad's.
Can a kinnow cold store run on solar?
Solar can carry a large share of the daytime compressor load, working with the grid, a generator or battery storage. Compressor surges, night loads and the short grading season all need careful design, so we size each plant from its load data.
Can I still get net metering from FESCO?
Not as a new applicant. Applications from 9 February 2026 come under net billing, where exports earn less than imports cost. Existing agreements keep their terms until they expire.
What is the smallest system you install in Sargodha?
Our projects start at about 6 kW. Send your bill and we will tell you honestly what size your load needs.
