What you will see

  • The utility display remains unreadable during normal observation.
  • A display issue begins after an outage or electrical disturbance.
  • Billing continues although readings cannot be checked visually.
  • The solar app works while the utility screen appears blank.

Why it happens

A blank screen alone does not establish whether the meter is recording correctly, has lost supply or has another fault. The utility should assess its equipment and explain how readings and billing will be handled.

Keep a complaint reference and the date reported. If an unresolved consumer complaint requires escalation, NEPRA provides an official complaint channel; use the route applicable to the case.

The solar team can separately review related inverter warnings. A functioning app does not confirm the health of the utility meter, and a dark meter screen does not prove that all nearby conductors are de-energised.

What you can check yourself

  • Note whether the property has grid power, if already known.
  • Record when the display was last seen working.
  • Keep the current bill and complaint acknowledgment.
  • Take a photograph only from a safe, ordinarily accessible position.
  • If the meter area is wet, damaged, smoking or giving off a burning smell, stay away and report the hazard urgently.

What not to do

  • Do not break seals, remove covers, strike the meter or operate unfamiliar equipment around it. Do not connect around the meter to restore supply.

When to call us

  • Notify us if the display issue coincides with inverter faults or followed solar-related work. The utility remains the contact for inspection of its meter.
