What you will see
- Cracked or shattered glass on one or more panels.
- Lower output from one string.
- Isolation or ground faults, especially after the next rain.
Why it happens
Hail can crack the front glass or cause micro-cracks in the cells that you cannot see. Water then gets into the panel and can create an electrical path to the frame. Even panels that look fine may have hidden damage.
What you can check yourself
- From a safe place, photograph the whole array after the storm.
- Check the app for any drop in output or new fault codes.
- Keep the storm date for your records.
What not to do
- Do not climb onto the roof in wet conditions.
- Do not touch a broken panel or its cables. It is still live in daylight.
- Do not cover a cracked panel with tape or plastic.
When to call us
