Solar in Mianwali and Khushab: Prices, FESCO and Design for Extremes
Short answer
Solar panels in Mianwali and Khushab sell at the national market rate: today WhatsApp for today's rate per watt for mainstream N-type panels, about WhatsApp for today's rate for a 585 W solar plate. Both districts are supplied by FESCO, the same electricity company as Faisalabad, so the net billing rules and paperwork are the same as for a Faisalabad customer. The local challenge is the climate: Mianwali summers reach about 51°C and winters drop near freezing, and the Salt Range adds hill sites with their own wind and access issues. Solar Works Pakistan serves both districts from Faisalabad with its own teams; we have no office in Mianwali or Khushab. WhatsApp 0336 666 4321 for today's rate.

Where Mianwali and Khushab sit
Mianwali lies on the Indus, with the tehsils of Mianwali, Isakhel and Piplan. Canals from the Jinnah Barrage carry water south into the Thal, and the land mixes plains, plateaus and hills. Khushab, with its capital at Jauharabad, stretches from the Jhelum river in the east across the Salt Range, home to Sakesar and the Soon Valley, down to the edge of the Thal desert. Its tehsils include Khushab, Noorpur Thal, Quaidabad and Naushera in the Soon Valley.
So within two districts you can find a hot plains house, a windy hill rest house and a desert-edge farm. Each needs a different design.
Designing for a 50-degree swing
The Punjab government's district study for Mianwali records summer highs of about 51°C and winter lows of about 2°C. In June 2026 a reported heatwave forecast put Mianwali and Khushab at 44-48°C. That range is the main engineering issue here.
Cold mornings: string voltage
Panel voltage rises as temperature falls. On a clear, cold January morning, a string of panels produces a higher voltage than its label suggests. If the string is too long, that voltage can exceed the inverter's maximum input, which risks damaging it. We calculate string length from the panel datasheet's voltage temperature coefficient and the coldest expected site temperature, not from a mild-day figure. Our guides on reading a solar panel datasheet and series vs parallel strings explain how this works.
Hot afternoons: power loss and inverter derating
At the other end, panels lose output in 50°C heat and inverters reduce power to protect themselves. Choose panels with a good power temperature coefficient, leave an air gap under them, and mount the inverter in a shaded, ventilated spot. Keep lithium batteries out of hot rooms. Our guide to solar panels in Punjab summer heat covers this.
Hill sites in the Salt Range
Homes and rest houses around Sakesar and the Soon Valley are cooler in summer, which helps panels, but they face stronger winds and colder winters. Structures need firm fixing for exposed ridges, and lightning protection and earthing deserve extra attention on high ground. See wind, storms and lightning safety. Hill roads also make material delivery slower, so we plan logistics during the survey. Our structures are designed in-house and carry a 3-year Solar Works Pakistan structure warranty.
Solar for local industry
The district investment studies describe a heavier industrial base than most of west Punjab. Mianwali lists a large cement plant, a fertiliser plant, a steel re-rolling mill, power stations, flour mills, cotton ginning units and soap factories. Khushab lists 27 rice mills, two cement plants, textile and jute units, a sugar mill, a soda ash plant and packaging. The area is also rich in limestone, rock salt, coal and gypsum.
What solar can and cannot do here:
- Cement, fertiliser and soda ash plants run kilns, crushers and process loads around the clock. Solar cannot run them alone, but a rooftop or ground-mounted plant can supply a share of daytime electrical load, such as grinding, conveyors, offices and colonies. Our guide to whether solar can run heavy industrial loads sets realistic expectations.
- Rice and flour mills suit solar well, because milling is mostly a daytime load. See solar for flour and rice mills.
- Measure first. For any large site, start with load logging, demand (MDI) and shift patterns. Our guide to the energy audit before industrial solar explains what to record, and our MDI guide explains demand charges.
- Storage and generators. Where evening or backup load matters, battery storage can be added; see BESS for factories. Sites with existing generators can run them alongside solar with the right controls (solar and generator hybrid). We integrate existing generators but do not sell them.
These projects go through our industrial and commercial solar service, with in-house engineering and AutoCAD design. We do not publish client names.
Farms and tubewells
Wheat, sugarcane, gram and citrus are grown across both districts. Our solar tubewell and VFD guide explains pump sizing by horsepower and bore depth.
Solar Works Pakistan designs and installs solar for tubewells and farm buildings in Mianwali and Khushab.
FESCO and net billing
FESCO lists Mianwali and Khushab among its eight districts, with Faisalabad, Sargodha, Jhang, Chiniot, Toba Tek Singh and Bhakkar. The NEPRA rules it applies are explained in our net metering and net billing guide:
| Rule | What it means for you |
|---|---|
| Net billing since 9 February 2026 | Imports billed at your tariff; exports credited at the national average energy purchase price, reported at about Rs 10-11 per unit at notification. |
| Older net metering agreements | Keep their terms until expiry; adding capacity can move you to net billing |
| Maximum size | Up to your sanctioned load, overall cap 1 MW |
| Eligibility | Three-phase 400 V or 11 kV consumers |
| Approval | FESCO approves up to 25 kW with no NEPRA fee; above 25 kW, NEPRA concurrence and a one-time Rs 1,000 per kW (25 kW rule) |
| Transformer | No new applications once solar on a transformer reaches 80% of its rating |
Our green meter and FESCO/LESCO application guide lists the documents and step timelines.
Because exported units earn much less than imported units cost, plan for self-use: cooling, pumps and motors in daylight, and a battery where evening load justifies it.
Solar Works Pakistan prepares, submits and follows up your FESCO net billing application.
How we serve Mianwali and Khushab

Frequently asked questions
What is the solar panel price in Mianwali today?
Mainstream N-type panels are WhatsApp for today's rate per watt, about WhatsApp for today's rate for a 615 W panel. Panel prices follow the national market. WhatsApp 0336 666 4321 for today's rate.
Which DISCO covers Mianwali and Khushab?
FESCO, the same company that supplies Faisalabad, Sargodha and Bhakkar. Net billing applications go to FESCO.
Do you have an office in Mianwali or Khushab?
No. Our offices are in Faisalabad and Lahore. We serve both districts from our Faisalabad head office with our own teams.
Why does winter matter for a solar system in Mianwali?
Panel voltage rises on cold mornings. If strings are designed only for mild weather, the voltage can exceed the inverter's limit. We size strings for the coldest expected temperature at your site.
Can solar run a cement or fertiliser plant?
Not on its own. These plants run heavy process loads day and night. Solar can supply a share of daytime electrical load, and storage or generator integration can be added where the numbers support it.
Can you install solar in the Soon Valley or near Sakesar?
Yes, as part of our Punjab service area. Hill sites need stronger fixing, careful earthing and lightning protection, and more time for material delivery, all of which we check at the survey.
Can I still apply for net metering with FESCO?
Not as a new applicant. Applications from 9 February 2026 come under net billing. Existing agreements keep their terms until they expire.
