Solar in Layyah and Bhakkar: Panel Prices, Thal Conditions and Installation

Short answer

Solar panels in Layyah and Bhakkar cost the same national market rate as elsewhere in Punjab: today WhatsApp for today's rate per watt for mainstream N-type panels, about WhatsApp for today's rate for a 585 W solar plate. Two local facts shape everything else. Both districts sit in the Thal desert, with sand, strong winds and summer heat above 45°C, and they are supplied by different electricity companies: Layyah by MEPCO, Bhakkar by FESCO. Solar Works Pakistan serves both from its Faisalabad head office with its own teams; we have no office in Layyah or Bhakkar. WhatsApp 0336 666 4321 for today's rate.

The Thal desert and what it means for solar

The Thal is a sandy plain between the Indus and the Jhelum and Chenab rivers. It covers most of Bhakkar and Layyah, along with parts of Muzaffargarh, Khushab, Mianwali and Jhang. Shifting sand dunes cover much of it. Summers usually run at 32-40°C, and hot southern winds push them above 45°C; a heatwave forecast reported in June 2026 put Layyah and Bhakkar at 44-48°C. Winters are cold and dry, and strong winds and summer dust storms blow through the year.

Large parts of the Thal are now irrigated by canal, and gram (chickpea) is its best-known crop, alongside wheat, sugarcane and cotton. For solar, though, the desert still sets the rules.

Sand is harder on panels than ordinary dust

Wind-blown sand does two things. It settles on panels and cuts output, and in strong winds it can scour exposed surfaces over the years. Our approach:

Wind loads on structures

Year-round wind and summer storms put real force on panel rows. Structures must be designed for the site's exposure and fixed properly to the roof or foundation. Our structures are designed in-house, assembled by our own team on site and carry a 3-year Solar Works Pakistan structure warranty. See wind, storms and lightning safety and, for older houses, roof load and structural checks.

Ground-mounted systems on sandy soil

Many Thal customers have open land and prefer a ground-mounted array. Sandy soil holds a footing differently from firm clay, and loose sand can drift against the lower panel edge. Foundations need to suit the soil, and the lowest panel edge should sit high enough to stay clear of drifting sand and allow cleaning. Our guide to ground-mounted solar explains the layout choices.

Heat

Thal heat lowers panel output and stresses inverters and batteries. Choose panels with a good temperature coefficient, leave an air gap under them and keep the battery out of hot rooms. Our guide to solar panels in Punjab summer heat has the detail.

Bhakkar's riverine belt

Along the Indus, Bhakkar has a riverine strip known as the Kaccha, and parts of Layyah have seen repeated flooding. On flood-prone sites, mount the inverter, battery and board above the highest known water level and keep cable joints off the ground.

Industry and farms in Layyah and Bhakkar

The Layyah district profile lists 24 cotton ginning factories, 13 flour mills and a sugar mill, and local sources also mention rice mills and a large dairy operation. Bhakkar's economy is similarly built on farming and crop processing.

Larger projects go through our industrial and commercial solar service, with in-house engineering. We do not publish client names.

Tubewells

With irrigation spreading across the Thal, solar tubewells are a common question. Our solar tubewell and VFD guide explains sizing by horsepower and bore depth.

Solar Works Pakistan designs and installs solar for tubewells and farm buildings in Layyah and Bhakkar.

MEPCO in Layyah, FESCO in Bhakkar

The two districts sit side by side, but the electricity bill comes from different companies:

LayyahMEPCOMultan, Muzaffargarh, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur and the rest of south Punjab
BhakkarFESCOFaisalabad, Sargodha, Mianwali, Khushab, Jhang, Chiniot, Toba Tek Singh

Bhakkar is in the same DISCO as our Faisalabad head office, so its net billing paperwork matches what we see for Faisalabad customers. Layyah's goes to MEPCO. Both apply the same NEPRA rules, set out in our net metering and net billing guide:

Our green meter and application guide lists the documents and step timelines.

With export units earning much less than grid units cost, design for self-use first: run cooling, pumps and mill motors in solar hours.

Solar Works Pakistan prepares, submits and follows up your MEPCO and FESCO net billing application.

How we work in Layyah and Bhakkar

Our offices are in Faisalabad (head office) and Lahore. Neighbouring areas have their own pages: Muzaffargarh and DG Khan to the south, Mianwali and Khushab to the north and Jhang and Chiniot to the east.

  1. WhatsApp us your bills (twelve months), roof or land photos and the loads you want to run.
  2. Remote review of units, sanctioned load and connection type, with an indicative size.
  3. Free site survey (normally), including roof or soil, wind exposure, water access and flood level.
  4. In-house design and a detailed BOQ naming brand, model, quantity and warranty for each item.
  5. Installation by our own team, then testing, safe commissioning and handover training.

Small projects normally take about one week, subject to payment, equipment availability and site readiness. After a complaint is registered, we target sending service personnel within 48 hours to start diagnosis; the time to a final fix depends on the fault, parts and distance. Panels, inverters and batteries carry the manufacturer's warranty per product; our service warranty covers the first year under applicable project terms. See installation services.

Founded in 2021, Solar Works Pakistan has served 300+ customers, including 50+ industrial clients, and draws on power-generation experience dating back to the 1980s through our founder, Akram Ullah Khan.

Frequently asked questions

What is the solar panel price in Layyah today?

Mainstream N-type panels are WhatsApp for today's rate per watt, about WhatsApp for today's rate for a 615 W panel. Prices follow the national market, so Layyah and Bhakkar pay much the same as Faisalabad for the panels themselves. WhatsApp 0336 666 4321 for today's rate.

Is Bhakkar under MEPCO or FESCO?

FESCO. Layyah is under MEPCO. The NEPRA net billing rules are the same, but your application goes to your own DISCO.

Do you have an office in Layyah or Bhakkar?

No. Our offices are in Faisalabad and Lahore. We serve both districts from Faisalabad with our own engineers and installers.

Does Thal sand damage solar panels?

Sand cuts output when it settles and can scratch the glass coating if wiped off dry. Rinse first, wash with a soft brush and keep inverters and breakers sealed against sand.

Can I install solar on open land instead of my roof?

Yes. Ground-mounted arrays suit many Thal farms and factories. The foundation must suit sandy soil, and the lowest panel edge should sit clear of drifting sand.

How often should panels be cleaned in Layyah or Bhakkar?

More often than in central Punjab, especially after storms and in dry months. Watch your monitoring app and clean when output drops or sand is visible.

Can I still get net metering in Layyah or Bhakkar?

Not as a new applicant. Applications made from 9 February 2026 come under net billing, with MEPCO in Layyah and FESCO in Bhakkar.
