Solar in Muzaffargarh and Dera Ghazi Khan: Prices, Heat and MEPCO

Short answer

Solar panels in Muzaffargarh and Dera Ghazi Khan cost the national market rate: today WhatsApp for today's rate per watt for mainstream N-type panels, about WhatsApp for today's rate for a 585 W solar plate. What changes here is the engineering. This is one of the hottest parts of Punjab, parts of it flood in the monsoon, and both districts are supplied by MEPCO. Solar Works Pakistan serves both districts from its Faisalabad head office with its own teams; we have no office in Muzaffargarh or DG Khan. WhatsApp 0336 666 4321 for today's rate.

This page covers local prices, how we design for extreme heat and flood-prone land, solar for the area's ginning factories and mills, and MEPCO's net billing rules.

Team travel and transport from Faisalabad appear as a separate line on the quotation, so you can see exactly what distance adds. Our projects start at about 6 kW, and with the cooling load in this part of Punjab most homes need at least that. Two districts, two landscapes

Muzaffargarh district is a long strip of flat, fertile land between two rivers: the Chenab on its eastern side and the Indus on its western side. Its tehsils include Muzaffargarh, Alipur and Jatoi, and Kot Addu sits to the north of them. Canal-irrigated farms, mango and citrus orchards and small towns sit close together.

Dera Ghazi Khan lies across the Indus to the west. The plain near the river gives way to the Sulaiman Mountains, which rise to about 3,000 metres in the north and include the Fort Munro hill area. Most homes and businesses are on the plain around DG Khan city, Kot Chutta and Taunsa, but a few customers ask about solar for houses in the hills.

These two settings need different design choices, which is why we survey every site before quoting.

Designing for 50°C summers

Muzaffargarh has recorded temperatures of about 54°C, and dust storms are common. A heatwave forecast reported in June 2026 put highs at 44-48°C for Dera Ghazi Khan, Layyah, Rajanpur and neighbouring districts during a heatwave. Strong sun is good for generation, but heat reduces the output of every panel and stresses every inverter.

What we do differently here:

  1. Pick panels by temperature coefficient, not only wattage. A panel that loses less power per degree gives more units on a 48°C afternoon. N-type panels generally handle heat better than older P-type panels. Our guide to solar panels in Punjab summer heat explains the numbers.
  2. Keep an air gap under the panels. A raised structure lets hot air escape from below. Panels laid close to a sun-baked roof slab run hotter and produce less.
  3. Put the inverter in the coolest spot available. Inverters protect themselves by reducing output when they overheat. A shaded, ventilated wall away from afternoon sun matters more here than in central Punjab. See inverter overheating in summer and where to install your inverter and battery.
  4. Protect the battery from heat. Lithium batteries age faster when kept hot. Never place a battery in a closed tin room or on an open roof.
  5. Size cables for roof temperature. A cable on a very hot roof carries current less efficiently, so we size it for the real conditions, not a mild-day rating.

Floods, dust and storms

Flood-prone land

Land near the Chenab floods in heavy monsoons, and Alipur tehsil and parts of Muzaffargarh tehsil flood most years. If your home, farm building or factory is in a low-lying area:

Dust and wind

Dust settles quickly in dry months, and storms can coat panels overnight. Plan safe roof access and a water point from the start, and clean with clean water and a soft brush. Our solar panel cleaning guide covers how often and how. Pre-monsoon storms also lift poorly fixed panels; our structures are designed in-house, fixed by our own team and carry a 3-year Solar Works Pakistan structure warranty. See wind, storms and lightning safety.

Hill homes near Fort Munro

Hill sites are cooler, which helps panels, but they are windier and colder in winter. On cold mornings panel voltage rises, so string lengths must keep the inverter inside its limits. Access for materials is also harder, so allow extra time for these sites.

Solar for ginning factories, mills and cold stores

The Punjab government's district investment studies give a clear picture of local industry. Muzaffargarh lists 81 cotton ginning and pressing units, sugar mills, flour and rice mills, textile spinning units and oil expelling units. Dera Ghazi Khan lists 70 ginning units as its largest group, along with 39 rice mills, 18 flour mills and 9 cold stores.

Cotton ginning. Ginning runs hard in the picking season and slows outside it. Gin stands, fans and presses use large motors, and lint is a fire risk near electrical equipment. Solar can carry much of the daytime season load, but surplus in the off-season and lint control both need careful design. Our guide to solar for cotton ginning factories covers this in detail.

Rice and flour mills. Steady daytime milling suits solar well; motor starting current and demand charges are the main design points. See solar for flour and rice mills.

Cold stores. Compressors run hardest through the hot day, matching solar output, but also run at night. Our cold storage guide explains compressor surge and storage options.

Many of these sites run generators during outages. A hybrid design with the right controller lets solar share the load with an existing generator safely; see solar and generator hybrid systems. We do not sell generators, but we integrate existing sets. These projects are handled through our industrial and commercial solar service, with in-house design and our own installation teams. We do not publish client names.

A note on Kot Addu's power plants

The Kot Addu area hosts large thermal power stations and a refinery. They are part of the national system and have no effect on rooftop solar prices or on your bill. Your solar case depends on your own load, tariff and roof.

Farms and tubewells

Canal and tubewell farms across both districts ask about solar pumping. Our solar tubewell and VFD guide explains sizing by horsepower and bore depth.

Solar Works Pakistan designs and installs solar for tubewells and farm buildings in Muzaffargarh and Dera Ghazi Khan.

MEPCO and net billing

Both districts are supplied by MEPCO, which lists Muzaffargarh and Dera Ghazi Khan among its operating zones in south Punjab. MEPCO applies NEPRA's national rules, set out in our net metering and net billing guide:

RuleWhat it means here
Net billing since 9 February 2026New connections: imports at your tariff, exports credited at the national average energy purchase price, reported at about Rs 10-11 per unit at notification.
Existing agreementsKeep their terms until expiry; increasing capacity can move you to net billing
SizeUp to your sanctioned load, overall cap 1 MW
Who qualifiesThree-phase 400 V or 11 kV consumers
ApprovalMEPCO approves up to 25 kW with no NEPRA fee; above 25 kW, NEPRA concurrence and a one-time Rs 1,000 per kW (25 kW rule)
TransformerNo new applications once solar on a transformer reaches 80% of its rating

Our green meter and application guide lists the documents and step timelines.

Because exported units earn far less than imported units cost, the strongest design here is self-use first: run ACs, pumps and motors from solar during the day, and add a battery for evening cooling where the numbers make sense.

Solar Works Pakistan prepares, submits and follows up your MEPCO net billing application.

How we serve these districts without a local office

Our offices are in Faisalabad (head office) and Lahore. Our Multan page covers MEPCO's main city across the Chenab, and our Layyah and Bhakkar page covers the Thal districts to the north. For Muzaffargarh and DG Khan:

  1. Send your bills on WhatsApp. Twelve months of bills, roof photos and the loads you want to run. Factories should add motor ratings, season dates and generator details.
  2. Remote review of units, sanctioned load and connection type, with an indicative size.
  3. Site survey, normally free, to check the roof, shading, flood level, structure and cable routes.
  4. In-house design and a detailed BOQ listing brand, model, quantity and warranty for every item.
  5. Installation by our own team, followed by testing, safe commissioning and handover.

Small projects are normally finished in about one week, subject to payment, equipment availability and site readiness. After a complaint is registered, we target sending service personnel within 48 hours to begin diagnosis; distance and spare parts can affect the time to a final fix. Panels, inverters and batteries carry the manufacturer's warranty per product, and our service warranty covers the first year under applicable project terms. See installation services.

Solar Works Pakistan was founded in 2021 and has served 300+ customers, including 50+ industrial clients. Our CEO, Akram Ullah Khan, brings power-generation experience going back to the 1980s.

Frequently asked questions

What is the solar panel price in Muzaffargarh today?

Mainstream N-type panels are WhatsApp for today's rate per watt, about WhatsApp for today's rate for a 615 W panel. Panel prices follow the national market, so they are much the same in Muzaffargarh, DG Khan and Faisalabad. WhatsApp 0336 666 4321 for today's rate.

Do you have an office in Muzaffargarh or Dera Ghazi Khan?

No. Our offices are in Faisalabad and Lahore. We serve both districts from our Faisalabad head office with our own engineers and installers.

Which DISCO supplies Muzaffargarh and DG Khan?

MEPCO. Both districts are among its south Punjab operating zones, along with Multan, Bahawalpur and others. Net billing applications go to MEPCO.

Will 50°C heat damage my solar system?

Panels are built for heat, but they produce less as they get hotter, and inverters and batteries reduce output or age faster if kept hot. Good panel choice, an air gap under the panels and a shaded, ventilated spot for the inverter and battery reduce the loss.

My area floods. Can I still install solar?

Usually yes, with care. We mount the inverter, battery and board above the known flood level, use elevated structures where needed and keep cable joints off the ground. The survey checks this before we quote.

Can a cotton ginning unit run on solar?

Solar can carry a large share of the daytime load in the ginning season. Motor surges, lint and fire safety, and off-season surplus all need careful design, so we size each site from its own load data.

Can I still get net metering from MEPCO?

Not as a new applicant. Applications from 9 February 2026 come under net billing. Existing agreements keep their terms until they expire.
