Solar for Homes in Wapda Town, Valencia and Lake City, Lahore
Short answer
Solar in Wapda Town, Valencia and Lake City suits the kind of house these societies are known for: a newer 10 marla to 2 kanal home, often three-phase, with several ACs and most of its use in the evening. For most of these houses the right design is a self-use hybrid system with a lithium battery. Before sizing it, check two things: who actually bills your house, and what your society requires before a structure goes on the roof.
Solar Works Pakistan surveys and installs in all three societies through its Lahore branch, with design done in-house. WhatsApp 0336 666 4321 with your bills and roof photos.
Three societies in south-west Lahore
| Society | Where | What the houses are like | Main solar question |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wapda Town | South of Johar Town, between Shahrah-e-Nazaria-e-Pakistan and Khayaban-e-Jinnah, in two main phases | Established society; mix of older and rebuilt houses | Roof age on older houses; three-phase and load on rebuilt ones |
| Valencia Town | Beside Wapda Town Phase 1, close to the Ring Road; LDA-approved, over 1,000 acres | Mostly newer houses; plots from 5 marla to 4 kanal | Large evening loads; society approvals |
| Lake City | Raiwind Road, with its own Ring Road interchange; about 2,400 acres, launched in 2005 | Plots from 5 marla to 8 kanal; many newer large houses, plus sectors still being built | Who supplies and bills power; construction dust |
These are newer and larger homes than the older Lahore neighbourhoods covered in Johar Town, Model Town and Gulberg, and they are not bound by DHA's published bylaws or Bahria's bulk-billing set-up, covered in DHA and Bahria Town. Each society still has its own rules.

Billing
LESCO or the society
Design
Self-use first, battery for evenings
Step 1: Find out who bills your house
This sounds obvious, but it decides whether net billing is open to you.
- Wapda Town and Valencia. Houses are generally understood to be LESCO consumers, billed directly.
- Lake City. Lake City has a history of its own power arrangements. Its sponsor, Lake City Management (Private) Limited, applied to NEPRA for generation and distribution licences for a proposed 68 MW oil-fired plant and an internal network, and LESCO raised legal objections in the hearing issues. A property portal also reports an in-house power plant inaugurated in Sector M7 in 2015.
Why it matters: NEPRA's net billing agreements are made with a licensed distribution company. If your house is billed by a society rather than LESCO, export credit may not be available or may work differently, as Bahria Town residents found. In that case, design for self-use, add a battery, and fit a zero-export device if the society does not allow export. Our guide to solar for housing societies covers society-level supply in more detail.
Step 2: Check your society's rules for the roof
None of these three societies publishes solar bylaws as detailed as DHA's, as far as we could find. That does not mean there are no rules. Before installation, ask the society office about:
- Permission or notice for a rooftop solar structure.
- Height limits for elevated frames, and whether the structure may sit above the mumty or water tanks.
- Placement rules, such as no panels overhanging the street or a neighbour's plot.
- Contractor access: gate passes, working hours and vehicle entry for material delivery.
We design structures to sit within whatever limits apply, with sealed anchor points so the roof's waterproofing is not damaged. See L2, L3 and elevated structures and roof waterproofing with solar.
Step 3: Size for the evening, not the afternoon
Large, newer houses in these societies share a load pattern. By day, a few ACs and the kitchen run while family members are out. After sunset, every bedroom AC comes on, along with lights, the water motor and often a geyser in winter. A system sized only to match daytime use leaves the expensive evening units untouched.
| House | Typical loads | Usual system | On-grid price | Hybrid price (with lithium battery) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 marla, three-phase | 3-4 inverter ACs, water motor, kitchen | 10-12 kW | WhatsApp for today's rate | WhatsApp for today's rate |
| 1 kanal | 5-7 ACs, booster pump, geysers, home office | 15-20 kW | WhatsApp for today's rate | WhatsApp for today's rate |
| 2 kanal and larger | Many ACs, lift or pool pump, staff quarters, EV | 25 kW and above, often two inverters | Quoted after survey | Quoted after survey |
These are starting points; twelve months of bills decide the size. See solar system size for marla and kanal houses, the solar system price guide and lithium battery prices.
Three choices shape the evening:
- Battery size. Decide which loads must run after sunset and for how long. Backing up one AC per bedroom all night needs far more storage than backing up lights, fans, the fridge and one AC. Our guide to batteries for a full night of backup works through the arithmetic.
- A backup loads panel. In a large house, put essential circuits on a separate board fed by the inverter's backup output. See backup loads panel.
- Inverter ACs. Inverter ACs draw far less at steady running and start gently, which makes battery backup practical. See inverter vs non-inverter ACs on solar.
Three-phase houses
Most new houses of 10 marla and above are built with three-phase connections. A three-phase hybrid inverter spreads solar across all three phases; single-phase inverters on a three-phase house can leave one phase importing while another exports. See three-phase vs single-phase inverters. If your sanctioned load is below the system you need, raise it first: increasing sanctioned load.
Net billing for LESCO consumers
If your house is a direct LESCO consumer, the national rules apply, summarised from our net metering and net billing guide:
- New solar connections since 9 February 2026 come under net billing: imports billed at your tariff, exports credited at the national average energy purchase price, reported at about Rs 10-11 per unit at notification.
- Available to three-phase consumers, with solar capacity up to your sanctioned load.
- LESCO approves systems up to 25 kW without a NEPRA fee; larger systems pay NEPRA a one-time fee per kW.
- LESCO fits AMI smart meters on new solar connections. See AMI meters and net billing.
Because exports earn much less than imports cost, we size for self-use first. See sizing under net billing.

Building a new house here?
Many plots in Valencia and Lake City are still being built on. If your house is under construction, planning solar now costs far less than retrofitting: conduit from roof to inverter room, space on the distribution board, a three-phase connection from the start, structure anchor points cast into the roof, a ventilated room for the inverter and battery, and a cable to the porch for a future EV charger. Our guide to making a new house solar-ready lists each item.
Construction dust and cleaning
Sectors still under development mean trucks, open plots and dust. Panels near active construction get dirty faster and lose output until cleaned. Check the monitoring app weekly in the first months and clean with water and a soft brush when output falls on clear days. See the solar panel cleaning guide.
EV chargers
Larger houses here are where EVs are arriving first. A car charging at about 7 kW is one of the biggest loads a house can add, so plan it with the solar: charge in solar hours where possible, check the sanctioned load, and use a dedicated protected circuit. Solar Works Pakistan installs EV chargers; see EV charger installation.
Where the equipment goes
Newer houses usually have space for equipment, but it is often in the wrong place: a sun-facing wall or a closed store with no airflow. The inverter and battery need shade, ventilation, a dry floor and a short run to the board. See where to install your inverter and battery.
How we work in these societies
- Bills and photos. Twelve months of bills, roof photos, the society and block, and a list of heavy loads including lifts, pumps and any EV.
- Site survey, normally free, covering the roof, shade, phase, board and the society's rules.
- In-house design in AutoCAD, with the structure drawn to fit any height limits.
- Detailed BOQ naming brand, model, quantity and warranty for every item. See comparing solar quotations.
- Installation by our own team, then testing, safe commissioning and handover with the monitoring app.
Small projects are normally completed in about one week, subject to payment, equipment availability, site readiness and any society permission. Panels, inverters and batteries carry the manufacturer's warranty per product. Our structures carry a 3-year Solar Works Pakistan structure warranty, and our service warranty covers the first year under applicable project terms. After a complaint is registered, we target sending service personnel within 48 hours to begin diagnosis. If you own a house here but live abroad, see solar for overseas Pakistanis. Frequently asked questions
Can I get net billing in Wapda Town or Valencia?
If your house is a direct LESCO consumer with a three-phase connection, yes, under NEPRA's net billing rules. Check your bill to confirm LESCO is your supplier.
Is Lake City supplied by LESCO?
Lake City's sponsor has applied in the past to NEPRA for its own generation and distribution licences, so supply arrangements may differ from a normal LESCO area. Confirm with the society and your bill. If the society bills you, design the system for self-use.
Do I need society permission to install solar panels?
Ask your society office before installation. Rules can cover structure height, placement, notice and contractor access, and they differ between societies.
What size solar system does a 1 kanal house in Valencia or Lake City need?
Many need about 15-20 kW, but evening load and backup needs matter as much as plot size. We size from twelve months of bills.
Is a battery worth it in these societies?
Usually yes. Large houses use much of their power after sunset, and exports earn far less than imports cost. A battery carries daytime solar into the evening and covers load-shedding.
I am still building my house. When should I plan solar?
Now. Conduits, board space, a three-phase connection and roof anchor points are cheap during construction and costly to add later.
