Our solar inverter faults guide explains faults on all brands. For Sungrow models and prices, see Sungrow inverters and batteries; for commercial buyers choosing a brand, see Huawei vs Sungrow.
What Sungrow inverter error codes mean
Sungrow inverters watch grid voltage and frequency, insulation of the solar wiring, string polarity and current, temperature and, on SH hybrids, the battery. When one goes out of range, the inverter records a fault or alarm code and either stops or carries on with reduced output.
- Faults vs alarms. Sungrow groups its codes into a "system fault" set and a "system alarm" set. A fault usually stops the inverter; an alarm warns while it keeps running.
- Several numbers, one meaning. Sungrow often gives one condition more than one code, for example grid overvoltage is listed under codes 2, 3, 14 and 15. Some apps and FAQ titles add an "EC" prefix or leading zeros (EC714, 010).
- Where to read it. iSolarCloud shows the code, name and time. On SH RS home hybrids, Sungrow's manual says you can touch the LED indicator to view the error code when the inverter is in an error state.
Codes can differ by model, so confirm with your manual.

Sungrow fault codes by type
The code numbers and names below come from Sungrow's official installer FAQ index. The "what it means" column is our plain-language explanation.
Grid codes, including sungrow grid overvoltage
| Code | Sungrow name | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 2, 3, 14, 15 | Grid Overvoltage | Grid voltage above the protection limit, either instantly or over time |
| 4, 5 | Grid Undervoltage | Grid voltage below the limit |
| 8 | Grid Overfrequency | Frequency too high |
| 9 | Grid Underfrequency | Frequency too low |
| 10 | Grid Power Outage | No grid detected |
| 13 | Grid Abnormal | Grid outside normal conditions |
| 17 | Grid Voltage Imbalance | Phases unequal on a three-phase supply |
| 323 | Grid Confrontation | Listed by Sungrow as a grid fault; ask your installer to check AC wiring and settings |
Sungrow grid overvoltage (codes 2, 3, 14, 15) is the most common grid fault in Punjab. When it repeats around midday on sunny days, the usual cause is voltage rise: your export pushes an already high local voltage over the limit. See inverter tripping on high grid voltage. Protection limits must not be changed without an engineer and DISCO rules.
Code 10 during load-shedding is normal; an on-grid inverter must stop and a hybrid should switch to battery. See inverter grid fault during load-shedding. Code 17 on a three-phase site points to a weak or missing phase; see inverter phase loss error.
Insulation, earthing and the sungrow pv insulation fault
| Code | Sungrow name | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 39 | Low System Insulation Resistance | Insulation between the solar wiring and earth too low |
| 12 | Excess Leakage Current | Leakage current from the system too high |
| 106 | Grounding Cable Fault | Problem with the earth connection |
| 1600-1615, 1632-1655 | PV Grounding Fault | A PV input has a fault to earth |
The Sungrow PV insulation fault (039) behaves like isolation faults on every brand: it often appears on damp winter mornings or after rain, then clears once the array dries. Sungrow even publishes a separate FAQ on how it detects low insulation, because it is so common. A healthy array should not do this, so the weak point must be found. See our inverter isolation fault guide.
PV string codes
| Code | Sungrow name | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 28, 29, 208, 212, 448-479 | PV Reverse Connection Fault (spelt "Reserve" in Sungrow's index) | A string connected with reversed polarity |
| 532-547, 564-579 | PV Reverse Connection Alarm | Reverse polarity warning on a string |
| 548-563, 580-595 | PV Abnormal Alarm | A string behaving abnormally, such as low or no current |
| 264-283 | MPPT Reverse Connection | Reverse polarity at an MPPT input |
| 1548-1579 | String Current Reflux | Current flowing backwards into a string |
All of these are engineer-only: the cure involves live DC wiring. A PV abnormal alarm on one string is often shading, a failed connector or a damaged cable. Too many panels in series causes overvoltage instead; see PV over voltage error.
Temperature codes
| Code | Sungrow name | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 37 | Excessively High Ambient Temperature | Too hot around or inside the inverter |
| 43 | Excessively Low Ambient Temperature | Too cold to run |
Sungrow also publishes guidance on overtemperature derating, where the inverter reduces output rather than stopping. In Punjab summers the fix is usually shade and airflow: see inverter overheating.
Hardware codes
| Code | Sungrow name | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 332-363 | Boost Capacitor Overvoltage Alarm | Internal DC stage warning |
| 364-395 | Boost Capacitor Overvoltage Fault | Internal DC stage fault |
| 1616 | System Hardware Fault | Internal hardware problem |
For hardware codes, restart once by the manual's sequence; if the code returns, it needs your installer and possibly a manufacturer's warranty claim.
Sungrow battery error codes
Sungrow's FAQ index names two battery-side codes on its hybrids:
| Code | Sungrow name | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 714 (EC714) | BMS communication fault | The inverter has lost communication with the battery's management system |
| 51 (EC51) | Back-up overload | Backup loads exceeded what the SH RS or SH RT hybrid can supply, so it shut the backup output down |
A Sungrow battery error such as 714 usually comes from a loose or wrong communication cable, a battery and inverter combination that is not approved, or a battery that has shut itself down. These are installer checks; see battery and inverter communication. For code 51, switch off heavy backup loads such as ACs and motors; see inverter overload. Other battery codes (temperature, voltage, module faults) are listed in your battery's manual.
For factories with Sungrow PowerStack or larger storage, alarms are handled through the site's monitoring and O&M routine; see our industrial and commercial solar page.
Quick-check table
| Symptom | Likely cause | Safe owner check | Call an engineer if... |
|---|---|---|---|
| Code 2/3/14/15 on sunny afternoons | Voltage rise | Note times and grid voltage in iSolarCloud | It happens most days |
| Code 10 with WAPDA on | Tripped AC breaker or voltage protector | Look at the breaker and protector, without opening the DB | A breaker trips again after one reset |
| Code 039 on damp mornings | Water at a weak connector or cable | Note weather; view wiring from a safe spot | It persists after drying |
| Code 37 in summer | Heat or poor airflow | Check shade and space around the unit | It continues after airflow improves |
| Code 714 | Battery link or BMS | Check the battery is switched on | It does not clear after one correct restart |
| Code 51 in load-shedding | Too much backup load | Switch off heavy loads | It trips with normal loads |
Safe owner checks, step by step
Safety box. Panels produce DC whenever there is daylight, and batteries can deliver very high currents. Never open the inverter or battery, never pull MC4 connectors or battery cables. If you smell burning, see smoke or water inside equipment, or feel a shock from metal, switch off in the order your manual gives, keep away, and call a qualified engineer.
- Screenshot the iSolarCloud fault with code, name and time, and check the fault history.
- Note the inverter and battery models from their labels.
- Check the grid, your AC breaker and any voltage protector.
- Note the pattern: midday, damp mornings, rain, load-shedding, or a heavy load starting.
- Restart once in the manual's order and wait as it instructs. See how to restart a solar system safely.
- Keep vents and the area around the inverter clear.
- If iSolarCloud shows offline but the inverter looks normal, see solar app offline.
What an engineer will check
- Grid codes: voltage at inverter and meter, AC cable size and joints, phase balance and the grid code setting.
- 039, 012, 106: insulation resistance of each string, earth connections, connectors and cable damage.
- PV string codes: polarity, connectors, shading and string current comparison.
- Temperature codes: location, ventilation, fans and loading.
- 714 and battery codes: communication cable and port, approved battery pairing, BMS status and firmware.
How to prevent repeat faults
- Install the inverter in shade with good airflow.
- Design strings for winter voltage and check polarity at commissioning.
- Protect DC cables from edges, sun and rodents; use matched connectors.
- Wash panels gently without spraying connectors.
- Use only approved battery pairings and keep firmware updated through your installer.

Frequently asked questions
What does error code 010 mean on a Sungrow inverter?
It is Grid Power Outage: the inverter cannot detect the grid. During load-shedding that is normal. If WAPDA supply is on, check the AC breaker and voltage protector, then call your installer.
What is Sungrow error code 039?
It is Low System Insulation Resistance, meaning the solar wiring has too little insulation to earth. It often shows on damp mornings. If it stays after the panels dry, an engineer must test the strings.
Why does my Sungrow inverter show grid overvoltage?
Codes 2, 3, 14 and 15 mean grid voltage went above the limit. On sunny afternoons this is usually voltage rise from your export. An engineer should measure voltage and check the AC cable.
What is EC714 on a Sungrow hybrid?
It is a BMS communication fault: the inverter cannot talk to the battery. Check the battery is switched on, then call your installer to check the cable and pairing.
How to check Sungrow error codes in iSolarCloud?
Open your plant, then the device or fault list, to see the code, name and time. Screenshot it before restarting anything.
Can I reset a Sungrow fault myself?
Restart once using your manual's sequence. If the same code returns, or a breaker trips again, stop and call an engineer.
Do you service Sungrow inverters installed by other companies?
Yes, we can inspect other installers' Sungrow systems across Punjab as a chargeable service. Send the screenshot and models on WhatsApp 0336 666 4321 first.
