Solar in Bahawalnagar and Chishtian: Prices, Heat and MEPCO
Short answer
Solar in Bahawalnagar and Chishtian costs the national market rate: today WhatsApp for today's rate per watt for mainstream N-type panels, about WhatsApp for today's rate for a 585 W solar plate. The whole district, including Chishtian, Haroonabad, Fort Abbas and Minchinabad, is supplied by MEPCO. What changes here is the climate: summers reach about 50°C, rain is scarce and dust is constant, so the design has to be built for it. Solar Works Pakistan serves the district from its Faisalabad head office with its own teams; we have no office in Bahawalnagar or Chishtian. WhatsApp 0336 666 4321 for today's rate.

The district: river, border and dry plains
Bahawalnagar district runs along the south bank of the Sutlej, with the Indian border to its east and south and Bahawalpur district to the west. It has five tehsils: Bahawalnagar, Chishtian, Fort Abbas, Haroonabad and Minchinabad. Around 70% of its people live in rural areas, and canal-irrigated farming of sugarcane, wheat, cotton, rice and mustard drives the economy. Chishtian, one of the district's oldest towns, is known for the shrine of the Sufi saint Khawaja Tajuddin Chishti.
Designing for 50°C and very little rain
The Punjab government's district investment study records summer highs of about 49.5°C, rising to 52°C in Fort Abbas tehsil, winter lows around 6°C and only about 119 mm of rain a year. For solar this means three things.
Heat
Strong sun is good for generation, but every panel loses output as it gets hotter, and inverters cut their own output to protect themselves.
- Choose panels by temperature coefficient, not only wattage. N-type panels generally hold their output better in heat. See solar panels in Punjab summer heat.
- Leave an air gap. A raised structure lets hot air escape from under the panels. Our guide to L2, L3 and elevated structures compares heights.
- Keep the inverter and battery cool. A shaded, ventilated wall away from the afternoon sun, never a closed tin room or open roof. See inverter overheating in summer.
- Size cables for roof temperature, not for a mild-day rating.
Dust
With so little rain, panels are rarely washed naturally. Dust from fields, roads and gin yards builds up week after week and cuts output every day it stays. Plan safe roof access and a water point from day one, and clean with clean water and a soft brush. Our solar panel cleaning guide explains how often.
Storms
Dust storms and pre-monsoon squalls cross open plains at speed. Structures must be anchored for the real wind, not just the panel weight. Ours are designed in-house, fixed by our own teams and carry a 3-year Solar Works Pakistan structure warranty. See wind, storms and lightning safety.
Solar for ginning factories and rice mills
The district investment study lists 154 cotton ginning and pressing units and 142 rice mills, which together make up most of the district's industry, alongside soap and detergent units, flour mills, agricultural implement makers and a sugar mill.
Cotton ginning. Gins run hard for a few months after the cotton harvest. Gin stands, fans and presses use large motors, and lint near electrical equipment is a fire risk. Solar can carry much of the season's daytime load, but surplus outside the season earns little under net billing, so we size carefully and keep inverters in a clean, enclosed room. See solar for cotton ginning factories and sizing under net billing.
Rice mills. Huskers, polishers and elevators run mainly by day after the rice harvest. Motor starting current, husk dust and seasonal load are the main design points; see solar for flour and rice mills.
Soap and other process units. Steady daytime production suits solar. The soap industry is one of the sectors Solar Works Pakistan has served, and the same load-study approach applies.
Most mill and gin sheds have light metal roofs, so purlin strength, fixings and leak sealing need an engineering check (solar on tin and metal sheet roofs). Many sites run a generator for outages; we do not sell generators, but we integrate existing sets with the right controller (solar and generator hybrid systems). These projects run through our industrial and commercial solar service. We do not publish client names.
Farms and tubewells
Farm owners in the district often ask about solar for tubewells. Our solar tubewell and VFD guide explains sizing by horsepower and bore depth.
Solar Works Pakistan designs and installs solar for tubewells and farm buildings in Bahawalnagar district.
MEPCO and net billing
Bahawalnagar is one of the 13 south Punjab districts MEPCO lists as its service area. MEPCO applies NEPRA's national rules, summarised in our net metering and net billing guide:
| Rule | What it means in Bahawalnagar and Chishtian |
|---|---|
| Net billing since 9 February 2026 | New connections: imports at your tariff, exports credited at the national average energy purchase price, reported at about Rs 10-11 per unit at notification. |
| Existing agreements | Keep their terms until expiry; increasing capacity can move you to net billing |
| Size | Up to your sanctioned load, overall cap 1 MW |
| Who qualifies | Three-phase 400 V or 11 kV consumers |
| Approval | MEPCO approves up to 25 kW with no NEPRA fee; above 25 kW, NEPRA concurrence and a one-time Rs 1,000 per kW (25 kW rule) |
| Transformer | No new applications once solar on a transformer reaches 80% of its rating |
Our green meter and net billing application guide lists the documents.
On a small rural transformer the 80% limit can be reached once a few neighbours install solar, so check early. Because exported units earn far less than imported units cost, the strongest design here is self-use first: run ACs, motors and pumps from solar in the day, and add a battery for evening cooling only where the numbers work.
Solar Works Pakistan prepares, submits and follows up your MEPCO net billing application.
How we serve Bahawalnagar and Chishtian
Bahawalnagar is about 157 km in a straight line from our Faisalabad head office. Nearby districts have their own pages: Bahawalpur to the west, Vehari and Burewala across the Sutlej, and Okara and Pakpattan to the north. Every city we cover is on our service areas page.
- Send your bills on WhatsApp: twelve months of bills, roof photos and your load list. Gins and mills should add motor ratings, generator size and season dates.
- Remote review of units, sanctioned load and connection type, with an indicative size.
- Site survey, normally free, to check the roof, dust exposure, structure and cable routes.
- In-house design and a detailed BOQ with brand, model, quantity and warranty for every item.
- Installation by our own team, then testing, safe commissioning and handover.
Small projects are normally finished in about one week, subject to payment, equipment availability and site readiness. After a complaint is registered, we target sending service personnel within 48 hours to begin diagnosis; distance and spare parts can affect the time to a final fix. Panels, inverters and batteries carry the manufacturer's warranty per product, and our service warranty covers the first year under applicable project terms. See installation services.
Solar Works Pakistan was founded in 2021 and has served 300+ customers, including 50+ industrial clients, with power-generation heritage going back to the 1980s through our founder, Akram Ullah Khan.

Frequently asked questions
What is the solar panel price in Bahawalnagar today?
Mainstream N-type panels are WhatsApp for today's rate per watt, about WhatsApp for today's rate for a 615 W panel. Prices follow the national market, so they are much the same in Bahawalnagar, Chishtian and Faisalabad. WhatsApp 0336 666 4321 for today's rate.
Do you have an office in Bahawalnagar or Chishtian?
No. Our offices are in Faisalabad and Lahore. We serve the whole district from our Faisalabad head office with our own engineers and installers.
Which DISCO supplies Bahawalnagar and Chishtian?
MEPCO. Bahawalnagar district, including Chishtian, Haroonabad, Fort Abbas and Minchinabad, is one of its 13 south Punjab districts.
Does 50°C heat reduce solar output?
Yes. Panels produce less as they get hotter, and inverters reduce output if they overheat. Good panel choice, an air gap under the panels and a cool, ventilated spot for the inverter and battery limit the loss.
How often should panels be cleaned here?
More often than in wetter districts, because rain rarely washes them. Many sites check every one to two weeks in the dry season and clean when dust is visible. Use clean water and a soft brush, never harsh detergent or a pressure washer.
Can a cotton gin run on solar?
Solar can carry a large share of the daytime load in the ginning season. Off-season surplus, motor starts and lint safety all need careful design, so we size from the gin's own load data.
Can I still get net metering from MEPCO?
Not as a new applicant. Applications from 9 February 2026 come under net billing. Existing agreements keep their terms until they expire.
