Solar in Sahiwal: Panel Prices, Cold Stores and MEPCO
Short answer
Solar in Sahiwal costs the same national market rate as in Faisalabad or Lahore: today WhatsApp for today's rate per watt for mainstream N-type panels, about WhatsApp for today's rate for a 585 W solar plate. Sahiwal district, including Chichawatni, is supplied by MEPCO, so net billing applications go to MEPCO rather than LESCO or FESCO. What makes Sahiwal different
Sahiwal district has two tehsils, Sahiwal and Chichawatni, on the fertile plain along the Ravi. Sahiwal is the home of the Sahiwal cattle breed, one of the best-known dairy breeds of the region, and farming still shapes most of the local economy.
The Punjab government's district investment study gives a useful picture of local industry. Cold storage is the largest group, with 78 units, followed by 58 cotton ginning and pressing units, 43 rice mills and 35 confectionery units, plus smaller numbers of tanneries, flour mills, dairy products, ghee and auto parts units. That mix matters for solar, because each of those loads behaves differently through the day and the year.
Our Gujranwala and Sahiwal page gives a short overview; this page goes into Sahiwal in detail.
Solar for Sahiwal's cold stores
Potato and other produce cold stores are the load we are asked about most in this belt. Three things decide the design:
- Compressors run day and night. Solar covers the hottest hours, when compressors work hardest, but stored produce still needs cooling after sunset. On-grid solar cuts daytime units; a battery or the grid has to carry the night.
- The season is uneven. Stores fill after harvest and hold stock for months, then run lighter before the next intake. We size to the load that runs for most of the year, so surplus in the light months is not exported at a low net billing rate. See sizing under net billing.
- Starting current. Large refrigeration compressors pull heavy current when they start. Inverters, protection and cables must allow for the starts, not just the running load.
Our solar for cold storage and ice factories guide explains compressor surge, insulation and storage options in more depth. Many stores also run a generator during outages. We do not sell generators, but we integrate existing sets with the right controller; see solar and generator hybrid systems.
Solar reduces units bought but does not always reduce the maximum demand on a commercial or industrial bill, because a peak can come after sunset. Read what MDI on your bill means before you set expectations.
Ginning, rice mills and dairy
Cotton ginning. Gin stands and presses run hard after the cotton harvest and slow outside it. Lint near electrical equipment is a fire risk, so inverters and combiner boxes need a clean, enclosed location. See solar for cotton ginning factories.
Rice and flour mills. Daytime milling suits solar well. Husk dust, motor starts and seasonal load are the main design points; see solar for flour and rice mills.
Dairy. Milk chillers, fans, misting and water pumps run long hours, especially in summer. Our solar for dairy farms guide covers chiller loads and backup.
Solar Works Pakistan designs and installs solar for dairy farms, tubewells and farm buildings in Sahiwal district.
These projects run through our industrial and commercial solar service, with in-house design, AutoCAD drawings and structures, and installation by our own teams. We do not publish client names.
A note on the Sahiwal coal power plant
The district hosts a 1,320 MW coal-fired power plant that began operating in 2017. It feeds the national grid and has no effect on rooftop solar prices or on your own bill. Your solar case depends on your load, tariff and roof.
Designing for 47°C summers
Summers on this semi-arid plain reach about 47°C, and winters drop close to freezing on clear nights. Heat reduces panel output and stresses inverters and batteries.
- Panel choice: a lower temperature coefficient gives more units on a hot afternoon. N-type panels generally handle heat better than older P-type panels. See solar panels in Punjab summer heat.
- Air gap: a raised structure lets hot air escape from under the panels.
- Inverter and battery location: shaded, ventilated and away from afternoon sun; never a closed tin room. See inverter overheating in summer.
- Dust: field and husk dust settles quickly in dry months. Plan safe roof access and a water point; our solar panel cleaning guide explains how often.
- Cold winter mornings: panel voltage rises in the cold, so string lengths are set to keep the inverter inside its limits on the coldest day.
Homes in Sahiwal and Chichawatni
Most enquiries from houses come down to two questions.
Single-phase or three-phase? Net billing is for three-phase consumers. A single-phase house that wants to export usually needs a three-phase connection first; see single-phase to three-phase conversion. A self-use hybrid system works without export.
On-grid or hybrid? If outages are short and rare in your area, on-grid with self-use first is usually the lower-cost route. If you need fans, lights and an AC through outages, a hybrid inverter with a lithium battery is the better fit. We size the battery from the loads you list, not from a package.
MEPCO and net billing in Sahiwal
Sahiwal is one of the 13 south Punjab districts MEPCO lists as its service area. MEPCO applies NEPRA's national rules, summarised in our net metering and net billing guide:
| Rule | What it means in Sahiwal |
|---|---|
| Net billing since 9 February 2026 | New connections: imports at your tariff, exports credited at the national average energy purchase price, reported at about Rs 10-11 per unit at notification. |
| Existing agreements | Keep their terms until expiry; increasing capacity can move you to net billing |
| Size | Up to your sanctioned load, overall cap 1 MW |
| Who qualifies | Three-phase 400 V or 11 kV consumers |
| Approval | MEPCO approves up to 25 kW with no NEPRA fee; above 25 kW, NEPRA concurrence and a one-time Rs 1,000 per kW (25 kW rule) |
| Transformer | No new applications once solar on a transformer reaches 80% of its rating |
Our green meter and net billing application guide lists the documents and step timelines.
Because exported units earn much less than imported units cost, the strongest design here is self-use first: run compressors, ACs and motors from solar in the day, and add storage only where the numbers make sense.
Solar Works Pakistan prepares, submits and follows up your MEPCO net billing application.
How we serve Sahiwal without a local office
Sahiwal is about 82 km in a straight line from our Faisalabad head office, so it sits within easy reach of our teams. Neighbouring districts have their own pages: Okara and Pakpattan to the south and east, and Khanewal to the west. All the cities we cover are listed on our service areas page.
- Send your bills on WhatsApp: twelve months of bills, roof photos and the loads you want to run. Cold stores and mills should add compressor or motor ratings, generator size and season dates.
- Remote review of units, sanctioned load and connection type, with an indicative size.
- Site survey, normally free; see what happens during a site survey.
- In-house design and a detailed BOQ listing brand, model, quantity and warranty for every item.
- Installation by our own team, then testing, safe commissioning and handover.
Small projects are normally finished in about one week, subject to payment, equipment availability and site readiness; larger projects follow a project-specific schedule. After a complaint is registered, we target sending service personnel within 48 hours to begin diagnosis; the time to a final fix depends on the fault and spare parts. Panels, inverters and batteries carry the manufacturer's warranty per product. Our structures carry a 3-year Solar Works Pakistan structure warranty, and our service warranty covers the first year under applicable project terms. See installation services.
Solar Works Pakistan was founded in 2021 and has served 300+ customers, including 50+ industrial clients. Our CEO, Akram Ullah Khan, brings power-generation experience going back to the 1980s.

Frequently asked questions
What is the solar panel price in Sahiwal today?
Mainstream N-type panels are WhatsApp for today's rate per watt, about WhatsApp for today's rate for a 615 W panel. Panel prices follow the national market, so they are much the same in Sahiwal, Faisalabad and Lahore. WhatsApp 0336 666 4321 for today's rate.
Do you have an office in Sahiwal?
No. Our offices are in Faisalabad and Lahore. We serve Sahiwal and Chichawatni from our Faisalabad head office with our own engineers and installers.
Which DISCO supplies Sahiwal?
MEPCO. Sahiwal is one of the 13 south Punjab districts it serves, so net billing applications go to MEPCO, under the same NEPRA rules as everywhere else.
Can a potato cold store run on solar?
Solar can carry a large share of the daytime compressor load, which is when cooling demand peaks. Night cooling still needs the grid, a generator or battery storage, and the seasonal pattern affects sizing, so we design from the store's own load data.
Is solar worth it for a dairy farm near Sahiwal?
Chillers, fans and pumps run long hours, which suits daytime solar. Whether it pays depends on your tariff, load pattern and backup needs. Send your bills and we will show you the example arithmetic for your site.
What is the smallest system you install in Sahiwal?
Our projects start at about 6 kW. If your load is smaller, we will explain honestly what size suits it.
Can I still get net metering from MEPCO?
Not as a new applicant. Applications from 9 February 2026 come under net billing. Existing agreements keep their terms until they expire.
